30 Nov 01 - 10:05 AM (#600901) Subject: James Keane on WFDU From: Ron Olesko Another "non-commercial" interuption: This Sunday December 2, James Keane will be my guest on THE SUNDAY SESSION - 9am Eastern Time on WFDU. WFDU can be heard at 89.1FM in the NYC area, or listen in via the internet where we stream audio at www.wfdu.fm James has just released a new CD called "James Keane and Friends - Live in Dublin". The CD was recorded at Whelan's when James made his first professional appearance in Dublin since he left his hometown in 1967. He is joined by Garry O'Briain, Mick O'Connor, Kevin Conneff, and Jame's brother (and Chieftain) Seane Keane. The CD is brilliant! On the show James discusses how the evening came to be, the stories behind the tunes, and Jame's view on the current state of traditional music. Hope you will join us! And now back to our regular Mudcat programming... Ron Olesko

30 Nov 01 - 12:27 PM (#600995) Subject: RE: James Keane on WFDU From: Art Thieme Ron, Is this the fine fellow who was JIMMY KEANE when he was in Chicago? His father was a grand gaelic singer then called JAMES "Horse" Keane. Jimmy, being younger then and the offspring, could be JAMES now that the fine old gentleman has passed away. If ya could, please ask James (Jimmy) for me. I'd appreciate it. Both were on my old NPR live radio show in the mid-1980s called THE FLEA MARKET. Both father and son were wonderful Irish performers. 30 Nov 01 - 12:48 PM (#601002) Subject: RE: James Keane on WFDU From: Ron Olesko Art, It is neither James that you mentioned. This is James Keane, the brilliant accordian player from Dublin. James won 4 All-Ireland medals for his solo playing and he recorded several albums for Shanachie and earlier for Green Linnet. He has toured with Green Fields of America. In his early days, he formed the Castle Celi Band with his brother Sean. (Sean is best known as a fiddle player with The Chieftains.) Recently Weltmeister honored James by issuing a limited edition James Keane Signature Model Irish Accordion. James is truly a legend in Irish music. You can find out more about him through his website - www.jameskeane.com. Ron |

02 Dec 01 - 06:53 PM (#602329) Subject: RE: James Keane on WFDU From: Art Thieme Well, I'm certain this James Keane is a great representative of his tradition but the other 2 Jimmy (James) Keanes were definitely worth searching out and hearing too. The Jimmy I mean often worked (works) with Mick Moloney. Art Thieme |

02 Dec 01 - 07:13 PM (#602348) Subject: RE: James Keane on WFDU From: WFDU - Ron Olesko I have heard the younger Jimmy Keane that you mention Art and he is a great musician! To make it even more confusing, the James Keane that I mentioned also played with Mick Moloney! I think we need to give all musicians numbers and hand out scorecards!! This reminds me of a story with the NY Mets. In their first year the Mets had two pitchers with the same name - Bob Miller. Luckily one was a righty and the other a lefty. Casey Stengel who was terrible with names anyway had a field day with them! Ron
