Lyr Req: Christmas Time in Ireland

Hi everyone!

I am looking for the lyrics to the song Christmas Time in Ireland. I understand it's been recorded by Foster and Allen, and probably lots of others.

...and the bells rang loud and clear.
All the family gathered, they came from far and wide.
So we'd be all together for a joyous Christmas time...

Does anyone have them to share?

Thanks!

Mary Kate

Found a bunch of recordings, but no lyrics. Maybe Aine or Alison knows them.......

Well, this page (click) has a generous (but not complete) sound clip of part of the song, recorded by Ruby Murray.

Thanks...I'll check out that link to that clip. Sound samples are all I've been finding thus far.

I've a feeling our best bet for this is Mick Bracken, Mary, though after the trauma of last weekend I no longer have his email or website address
Now guess who that puts the onus on..LOL

I think this is the one!

Chorus
Christmas Time in Ireland
In the days when I was young
When we gathered round the fire
And the old songs they were sung
To hear my dear old mother tell
Of bygone days of yore
And the way that she spent Christmas
In dear old Lettermore

Christmas Time was different
In the days of yester year
With candles in the window
And the bells rang loud and clear
All the family gathered
They came from far and wide
So we'd be all together
For a joyous Christmas time

Holly round the pictures
Thread with berries bright
Decorations followed
They make a pretty site
Peeping through the window
The world is white with snow
The friendly birds are calling
And the widgeons they fly low

Chorus

It's well I do remember
The nights of Christmas Eve
As we watched the bright stars in the sky
My stocking I would leave
Hanging from the bedstead
My heart is full of glee
Hoping that dear Santa Claus
Will please remember me

And then on Christmas Morning
As dinner time would near
The smell of turkey cooking
Oh the currant cakes and beer
Happy happy Christmas
Let us all be glad
That we have cherished memories
Of the Christmas's we've had

Chorus
