BS: help me please

Hi! I need some help, I'm looking for the title of a song... the only lyrics I know are " going up to an angel in the sky", these lyrics are part of the chorus. I know it's a fairly old song and plus I heard it recently on the Drew Carey show, for those who watch it it's the episode where drew is in a coma and dies for a while.

Thks

I believe the title is "Spirit In The Sky"..I'll go have a look in my piles and get back with you. It was a top 40 radio song at one time..

Well, never mind...Sorcha beat me to it! Hey Sorcha! Wish we had bumped into each other at Carnegie...I wasn't able to keep up with posts too closely at that time and didn't know you'd be there...otherwise I might have made a public service announcement onstage to have you meet me at the stage door or something...!

Spirit in the Sky was a favorite song of a young college-age parishioner of ours. She was much loved, and had been so active as an acolyte and in youth group, everyone knew her pretty well.

When she was killed in a tragic car wreck in the last few years, her parents had the guts to have this song played over the PA system IN the funeral home BEFORE her service to introduce the service!!! That, and a poem she had written about life and her awareness of its shortness, made it almost bearable. I will never forget our town's finest and most stuffed shirts realizing THAT song was playing with its unmistakable and really weird intro! And it was LOUD! They ended up rocking in their seats, almost dancing!

I remember "When you gonna buy me a canned ham?/I been waitin' so long..." "Canned Ham" was at the time thought to be code for pot, but what wasn't?
