Lyr Add: Enron-ron-ron

Enron-ron-ron

I bought it on a Monday, twenty bucks a share
The Enron-ron-ron, the Enron-ron
Now it's down to twenty cents, and going south from there
The Enron-ron-ron, the Enron-ron
Yeah twenty bucks a share
Yeah going south from there
Now all my saving's gone
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron.

They used to be the big name in the power game
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron
Now they can't afford to keep their ballpark name
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron
Yeah they owned the power game
Yeah they gave the field a name
Now they're on the welfare line
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron

The Congress is in outrage and begins to yell
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron
What happened to this firm that lined our wallets so well?
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron
Yeah they begin to yell
Yeah it lined their wallets well
Now that cash-cow is gone
The Enron-ron-ron the Enron-ron

...a clever and timely song, mousebreath!!!*wink* Kenneth Lay's ties to George Bush, as well as those of Lindsey, Rove and Zoellick should warrant some inquiry, don't you think? harpgirl

What, a Republican-led congress investigating conflict-of-interest questions about someone named Bush and a bankruptcy? It's never happened before.

Alex, great job! I am amazed that the White House is claiming meetings with the prez and vice-prez do not require public disclosure, esp. after what was done to Clinton!

Noreen, the dirt on VP Cheney and others is coming out. For more, please go to www.drudge.com and see the Enron coverage.

Dear mousethief,

Could I please put this one in the Mudcat Songbook? Just another great example of your lyrical mastery (finely honed by the Song Challenge!s, of course!).

Yes of course, Aine! I am flattered.

Anyone who wants an mp3 of me "singing" this, email me at flyingdichotomymusic@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Alex

Have sent this thread to my sister, who unfortunately doesn't visit the Mudcat regularly.

Very nice going.

Come to think of it, I will send to a few other folks who will apreciate it.

Hey, Alex, ya gotta get some of those slick Seattle musicians to work this up to sound like the original by The Crystals! You'd get airplay all over for sure.

Or you could send it to The Capitol Steps--it's exactly their style!

Strong work! My coconut-frond hat's off to ya!

Aloha,
Mark

Bravo! (The local paper is calling it the first scandal of the Bush presidency -- I guess they've forgotten the Florida election mess.)

I think it's kinda sick, Alex. Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's the way I feel.

It appears to me that you have taken a tragic business failure that adversely affected thousands, perhaps millions of shareholders, including employees of the company and made a comedy of it.

I can understand why so many of my Liberal Mudcat friends laud it as a candidate for the Pulitzer, but I just don't see it that way. I see the failure of Enron as a national tragedy, and nothing to be celebrated.

You folks seem to be celebrating over the failure of a company that hurt a helluva lot of people.

Why? Because you think you might be able to find a chink in Bush's armor. I think that's sick. But it's just my opinion.

No, Doug, it's not celebrating the failure of a company. Heaven knows, all the Enron employees and investors who watched helplessly as their retirement portfolios went into the toilet when the (possibly, allegedly) criminal actions of the corporate leaders was uncovered...they're not celebrating. All of us hippie-liberal-commie-pinko-radical types are making jokes about this because we're angry. And we're not just angry because the people who ran Enron appear to have thumbed their noses at their employees and their investors, and the law. We're angry because (1) they appear to have PROFITED HUGELY by thumbing their nose at their employees and investors and the law, and (2) it's beginning to look like they may have used the elected and appointed officials of the Federal Government to help them do so--and those elected and appointed officials may have profited in return for that help. And my personal opinion is that someone who supports the party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt should be angry as hell when people who claim to represent that party try to turn MY government into the private agent of any person or corporation.

I really hope, Doug, that you'll listen to what is being said here and not just dismiss it as "so much liberal talk". You strike me as a person who values integrity and honesty more than political labels, and it's integrity and honesty that have been trampled here, or so it's beginning to appear. I fully understand why so many people were so appalled at Clinton's sexual shenanigans (although I may have disagreed with their conclusions). Please try to understand why so many people are appalled at what is being uncovered here.

Aloha (and I mean that),
Mark

Mark: "we are making jokes about this because we are angry!"

My point is, it is not a situation, in my opinion, that calls for jokes. Note I say, "in my opinion."

Ask yourself, Mark, would you be comfortable performing this song to a group of Enron employees that just lost all of their life-savings and pension benefits?

No offense to you, Alex. I respect you and don't believe you would intentionally bring hurt to anyone. I just disagree with this particular approach to this situation.

I would have felt the same way had someone written a parody about 9/11.

Peace.

I see now that "versions" of my spoof are all over the web, including Dave Ross's website. Wish I'd'a registered the copyright back in December. Sigh.

Alex,

Robin Williams sang "The En-Ron-Ron-Ron" on David Letterman a few nights ago, which may be the source of all the web versions. But the verses were different. Truly, if you had registered the copyright you might have a claim on some real dough. But on the other hand, I doubt if RW got it off Mudcat; more likely you both had the same great idea--you just had it first!

Here is another versions of the Enron-Ron parody, more political and, I believe, written independently.

The composer is Julie McCall of the Labor Heritage Foundation, AFL-CIO, who has written many fine parodies:

Who's the corporation that went belly up? It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Employees and investors are all out of luck It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Yeah, those millionaires All cashed in their shares A real bankrupt affair It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron

Who gave lots of money to the Bush campaign? It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron But then their credit rating headed down the drain It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Cheney and his crew Yeah, John Ashcroft too Now they're acting like they had no clue It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron

Who's been trading energy around the globe? It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron And now they are the target of a federal probe It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Making policies With the GOP While they plundered the economy It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron

Who had their accountants try to hide the debt? It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron With the worker's futures they were playing roulette It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Now their bonds are junk Pension fund's defunct That's how low they've sunk It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron

What's the biggest scandal of the century? It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron A major threat to our homeland security It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron Yeah we're in the grip Of corporate terrorists United we won't stand for this! It's Enron-ron-ron, it's Enron-ron

Check the website www.laborheritage.org for some other good parodies (among other good things there).

In solidarity, Bennet
