It's not really folky but does anyone have the words to a song called "Just when I needed you most"?

It was recorded sometime in the seventies by the divertingly titled "Randy Van Warmer" - little wonder it sank without trace!

Thanks in anticipation.

Cumbrian.

If my name was Randy, I'd have to change it! Great song though.

Not sure why you think it sank without trace?

It was a huge hit

It is a lovely song- I have a recording of it sung by (I think) Fiona Simpson. Sung simply, with subtle acoustic guitar. Lovely!

I mean to get the courage to sing it in a folk club one day...

Isn't he quite a successful film music writer these days [despite the name]?

McGrath, occasionally you really crack me up. What a picture, a tart with a heart of gold, an acne-covered heavy metal band, and a cold night.

Don't know Randy Vanwarmer, no relation to that famous Dutch Trio: Hertz and Avis VanRental and Avis' brother Kenning VanHire?
OK, OK, nearly all the old jokes binned now!

name reminds me of Rip Torn
I never had any great expectations of a "Rip Torn"'s ability to act, but I have to own-up, I have been impressed by his characterisations of real people.
like the van Shaker quip Maxine.
