BS: I have the answer!!

From: Morticia

Are you tired and grumpy having spent all night on the 'Cat when you should have been tucked up warmly in your bed?
Losing valuable housework/study time in contemplation of a thread on how to find the lost chord, varnish your weasel, or make plum pudding from a sock and a spare capo?
Can you no longer look your boss in the face knowing you have spent all morning in pursuit of a lyric for which you have a one word clue and no artist, rather than re-organsing the company's paper clip supplies?
The answer lies apparently in a program sent to me by the Downloads Centre and which is called " Max Resistance - Freeware". I don't know what it does yet but presumably it will stiffen our spines, increase our resolve and allow us to break free of the perfidious Mudcat syndrome. I'll go and investigate the possibilities but first I have to read the thread on Mole Strangling for Fun and Profit, then I'm right on it!

I dunno - if it's anything like Max Factor it'll be worse than useless.
I tried it, ended up looking a total tit and had to spend the rest of my life indoors lobbing insultments at the outside world via a muddy cat.

Me? Stuck on the 'Cat?
Surely not. At least not when there are drinking games and cultural events to be enjoyed.
Heck, I can leave this at any time. Just you see...

There. Just did it.
The above link, by the way, will probably mean nothing to them across the pond. To some of us, however, it sums up a complete way of life...

Thanks, I have now have that site book-marked ( well-found, that man!) and another excuse to stare at this screen for hours.

Is that "maximum resistance" or "resistance to Max"?

Or both?

Please send it to me in a plain brown wrapper. The bags under my eyes look like they havn't been unpacked in months.

I think you have all underestimated the Max factor. Resistance is futile - you will be assimilated.

Isn't a mantra some kind of big fish?
Or was it a posh car?
And did you get it at the 'catters auction room? If not, you can't use it here, mate!

that link, Gervase, even though it does display a sort of life I can hardly relate to, seems to be a prime example of a pattern of thinking I often seem to see in English comedy, where non-sequiturs and almost random direction changes paint an image of life with no 'transition' between events...like tearing all the pages from a book and reading them is random order...some will seem to be related, and conversations will have 'focus' for a bit on anyone page...but then BOOM!,,,off in a new direction for no apparent reason.

It can have moments of very quaint, fascinating amusement, but then veer away with no follow-up, as if it is all irrelevant.

I guess you DO have to live it to follow it,,*shrug*...

Two countries divided by a common language, indeed, hmmm?

From that I get the impression Bill hasn't seen "Withnail and I." Search for it, Bill, it's worth it.this link shows a bit more about the film.

british humour...strange? I think not. I mean just look at the League of Gentlemen, or the Fast Show. Intelligent humour. I never could fathom the appeal of Married With Children myself!

"where non-sequiturs and almost random direction changes paint an image of life with no 'transition' between events" - the Simpsons can be just like that too. It's not just British.

In fact that's how life itself is a lot of the time.

Not just British, BillD, but also Irish - as Joyce and Beckett would concur; "the ineluctable modality of the risible" if yer like!

Tell you what, if Morticia is a typical Irish person, I need to visit Ireland. I spent 10 days in England, and, her humor was one of the brightest spots in the whole trip. Love that lady! (Sorry Morty, didn't mean to call you names)

Who do you think you're calling a lady????Dammit, there's plenty of people here would disagree to their dying breath! *BG*....I had a good time too, Kendall....maybe we should visit Ireland as our next 'project'.
