hi my grandmother's brother always sang this song to her. it is very sentimental. About a year ago i learned how to play the guitar. She said it would mean alot to her if i found the song and learned it. So i am trying to find it and surprise her at christmas. Anyways... all she knows is the first verse wich is..."sadie my lady wont be my gal we'll get maried in June.." any help would be GREATLY APPRECEATED!!! MIKE

Dear Mike,

Is this the song you're looking for?

MY LITTLE LADY
(Elsie McWilliams and Jimmie Rodgers)

I had a gal, oh, what a gal.
Her name was Katy Brown.
I'd take her out, to ride about
When the moon was shining down.

We'd sit alone, when we got home
Out in the old porch swing.
Then the dear little miss
Would give me a kiss
While sweetly to her I would sing.

Oh hey-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
I love no one but you.
Oh hey-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
Just say you love me too.

We'll get married in June
And have a long honeymoon,
Then settle down for life.

Oh hey-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
Won't you be my wife?

I had a gal, oh what a pal.
She left me alone one day.
I didn't mind, because I find
They 'most always do you that way.

So I went about, to try and find out
If another gal I'd soon find.

In less than a day, I met Sadie Mae.
Now I hand her the same old line:

Oh Say-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
I love no one but you.
Oh Say-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
Just say you love me too.

We'll get married in June
And have a long honeymoon,
Then settle down for life.

Oh Say-day-ee, a little lay-day-ee
Won't you be my wife?

artist: Jimmie Rodgers. Recorded in Camden, NJ, June 12, 1928. Vocal with own guitar. Transcribed from Rounder CD 1057 "Jimmie Rodgers: "The Early Years, 1928-1929"

Dear Mike,

I've started a new thread for you here, requesting the guitar chords for this song. I'm sure one of the other 'Catters can come up with them for you.

Good luck (and say hi! to your grandma, OK?), Áine
