Help people, STILL need lyrics to The Groovers Song with the chorus:-

Here's to the men of the Tees and the Swale, To the Nidd vale and Wharfe and Arkengarthdale, And here's to Charles Barmforth the fellow won't fail, To provide work for the groovers.

Has ANYONE got a clue to the origins??? Not YOU Roger I know your still trying to find the singer!!!!!

Cheers all Merry Crimbo

Spike

Hmmm. I found an Italian band called The Groovers; lyric to 6 albums are here, both Italian and English, and that band has nothing like what you want, different band of Groovers, perhaps?

The only reference to Groovers I remember was the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore song which has the line "I'm a Mississippi Groover Yeah!" in it. JohnB

The same song was previously requested in this thread, which contains a bit more information, but not the complete lyrics.

Spike, if your original question wasn't answered, and you want to ask it again, it's generally better to refresh the original thread rather than start a new one.

I seem to remember another thread from the last week or two which asked for the same song. I know I posted a couple of times in it. It sounds like something Richard Grainger might have written. HE has written a number of songs referencing the Teesdale area.

pp.3+4 Lyrics and some info there.

' Here is an example, the Arkengarthdale Song sung by Arthur to the Scottish pipe tune “My Home”.

Chorus:
Here’s to the men of the Tees and the Swale,
To the Nidd, Wear and Wharfe and Arkengarthdale
And here’s to Charles Bathurst, the fellow won’t fail,
To provide work for t’groovers

Verse 1:
When I was a young lad wi’ mi’ father I went
Up to the mine where mi’ time it was spent
Breaking up the lead ore to help out wi’t rent
And learn the trade of a groover

Verse 2:
Now I’m a youth and I’ll go down below
I’ll go wi’ mi’ father, he’ll teach me you know
How to look for the signs and to hew the lead ore
And teach me the trade of the groover

Verse 3:
I’ve bairns of me own now the eldest is nine
He’ll come with me up to the mine
With his booker in hand reckon he will do fine
Like his father he’ll be a groover '
