I know we haven't seen Escamillo/Andres on the Mudcat a lot, lately, but I hope he will see this. I am concerned for him and his family due to the news about the situation in Argentina, esp. as he is in Buenos Aires.

Escamillo/Andres, mi amigo, here's one of your

for you and your family. Hope you are safe and that things settle down quickly in your country. We miss you!

I echo that, it has been a hard year for Andres, in many ways, and he is in my thoughts. It is going to be very hard for many people in Argentina, it is very fragile and vulnerable, and I wish him only the best, and the neo-cons who got them into this mess only the worst.

yours, Peter

Well, PT has once agin phrased things perfectly!

Andres has been a good friend to many of us here and certainly to me. As my life has gone back and forth, he has had great words that bear warmth, even through this medium. I can only hope that things are the best they can be and I wish him and his entire family the best now, as always.

Andres, I am writing to another in your family this weekend, and know that I along with many others are hoping things will improve in Argentina. Much love and many hugs.......

I have just tried to get through to Andres, by telephone, but it seems the lines into there are not working right or are overtaxed. I've tried going through two different long distance companies and each time I get the weird rapid busy signal. I will keep trying over the next few days and will also get a letter off to him, though that seems so slooooow.

After seeing today's news, I've been very concerned. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.

Well shoot! I was able to get through with an operator-assist, but the woman who answered said it was the wrong number. Then we checked with Argentina information and they couldn't find anyone lsited under his last name; could just be he isn't listed, but I am now wondering if he's moved or something. Anyway, I hope we hear from him, again, someday and I will still write to him.

Dear friends, Argentina is a chaos but fortunately we are all ok, and the police gases don´t taste so bad after all. Much worse is the taste of having been robbed by the banks and the government. You may beleive it or not, actually all payments in cash are prohibited, and the checks you may receive, once in your bank, disappear in a black hole. You may withdraw up to $ 250 per week, but cheks don´t get credited and your balance is zero for very long weeks.

My account at Fibertel was cancelled for lack of payment, but I really will not pay anything until after all elementary expenses at home and health-related are covered ! The chain of payments is totally broken, nobody produces, sells or buys. Yesterday it was finally announced that the peso is devaluated to 1.40 per dollar (it was 1 to 1) but this is only the beginning, because nobody knows what is the real value of our currency.

I am writing from my partners' office, and will not have a private e-mail for some days more. You may reach me at home at (your code for abroad)(5411) 4639 - 9429 at night, or at rmaestre@multigranos.com.ar

It´s useless to say how complicated is to live here these days. I don´t even have a place to sing because musical organizations are broken and suspended their work. Fortunately this country is so large and so rich, that nobody in the world will ever put it to its knees. For those who know my son Mariano, he is OK too, and more concerned for the rest of the family than for himself.

I keep you all in my heart, and I'm really grateful for all your concern. Hopefully I´ll be back soon !

Un abrazo a todos, as always - Andrés

The U.S. dollar is the only solid currency in Argentina. It does not need a bank. A twenty dollar bill, in a card will get through the mail. Send your contributions direct to Escamillo. It will mean nothing to you but much to someone in Argentina.

Thank you, Guest, I was just wondering if we might be able to do something like that; mostly wondering if the mail delivery service is working and if it would, indeed, get to its intended destination.

Subject: RE: Un abrazo for Escamillo in Argentina

Guest, you are kidding, I guess. I hope that nobody seriously beleives that we are accepting contributions !

By the way, all those contributions from the IMF which conforms our national debt, and which went to private hands in a large percentage, have ruined our economy. We, the workers at this suffering country, prefer a humble life with absolutely no loans. Sad, indeed.

Thanks again and please forgive me for causing your concern. I was so worried about elementary things like safety and subsistence, that I was short in time to come to the office and write some lines to the Mudcat friends. Really sorry.

Un abrazo - Andrés

If you decide to change gears, Andres, and move to San Diego, we'll be happy to vouch for your character. It might be a happy change, you never know!!

We dont have Pampas, but we do have Pampers. And we don't have any gauchos or bolos, but we do have a lot of gauche people wo like to swing their balls around, if that helps!! And the basic machinery of living is in good shape. And you would have a nation of friends!!

ANDRES

The most important aspect for imigration to the States is having a sponsor, and Amos appears to be your man. Information about the H-1 process from Argentina is found through the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aeres. AT: http://usembassy.state.gov/posts/ar1/wwwhtwve.html

Mudcatters, when sending the money, make SURE that they are NEW bills. The slightest, tear or soil mark will render them useless in South America.

From: Escamillo

Thanks Guest, but I would rather not migrate because it is said that all properties of Argentineans will be embargoed soon, including Consulates and Embassy along with their PCs, desks and phones ! :)

More seriously, this is getting worse, unfortunately. If you see some disaster on TV, don´t worry in particular for me, because we will keep appart from the violent conflicts. (Though not appart from the peaceful protests, in which we are all involved). This is a city as large as NY, and 99% of the area is safe.

Will keep you informed, best wishes for you all

Un abrazo - Andrés

It is such a pity that such a lovely country should be so messed up by the human beings(Friends, Argentina is truly one of the most beautiful countries in the world, it is staggeringly beautiful, and it will be real cheap to travel there for the next while -- as Andres says, it is extremely safe in spite of the pictures). Time to go out and buy Argentinian wine -- pretty good too.

yours, Peter T. P.S. keep singing, Andres.

Peter and all, the dollar has completed a 100% increase and is selling for TWO pesos for those who still have some pesos out of the banks. It is expected to raise to 3.50 as soon as the authorities(?) partially free our deposits at the banks.

Two or three comments absolutely out of the musical subjects:

1) IF the authorities(?) can make it, our products will be some of the best quality and most inexpensive in the world.

2) IF we can avoid a civil war, Argentina will be a wonderful destination for vacations: beautiful, safe, full of cultural events, and inexpensive.

3) IF the authorities(?) realize that we DON'T NEED MORE LOANS from anybody (only some relief in the payment of interests) we could re-build this country in a few years and prohibit the entrance of all those who took our dollars abroad.

4) .. two many IFs

Today, bank branches in small towns are being destroyed by the people. I can only say *BG*. I still have to hear a single declaration of national and foreign banks authorities on behalf of their clients and against the compulsive blocking of all our funds. They are simply making more profit with this phenomenal gift of 400% increase in clients caught in the trap. This is the most incredible robbery in History.

Advertising space: I do have a capital, it is my software, an administrative/control/accounting system for small and medium cereal/oilseed brokers and flour mills, and runs in all versions of Windows. There are 24 active users, the first since 1985. I am looking for a market for this system in all Latin America and USA, to be installed and supported by local people and by myself through Internet and some visits. If anybody knows a company which would need a system like this, please put them in contact with me at rmaestre@multigranos.com.ar or leave a message at www.mutigranos.com.ar, or ask me for a demo CD. I repeat, there's no intention to migrate, just to open new horizons for this product.

I hope to have better news next week. Thanks to all ! Un abrazo - Andrés (singing in the rain.. of.. you know)

Dear friends, next Friday there will be a national protest and a march over the Rose House for the liberation of.. our funds. Banks are still retaining everybody´s money, it was confirmed that the deposits in US dollars will NOT be returned to people because the dollar bills are GONE. They say if they authorize some payments, people will run into banks and there will be a chain of bankrupcies. It´s funny. "I don´t give you your money back because If I did, I would go to Chapter 11. Anyway, since nobody pays to you in cash, please keep bringing those checks to our desk. They will be safe here. We´ll free 150 per week, that´s enough for you. If you need more, use your checks (if you qualify for an account) or your card (if ya got one, ha!), someone will accept them. Don´t ask for your previous savings. Please wait on that line, outside."

I don´t understand very well, but this could be the basis for a new capitalism.

In the meantime, the International Monetary Fund recognizes that they are part of the problem, and promises an important monetary help as soon as Argentina prepares a "viable and sustainable" plan. PLEASE, IMF, keep out of Argentina. Your loans always go to the pockets of large corporations and local mafia, and you KNOW it very well because you are no stupid at all. That´s association with criminals.

We are all OK, going from protest to fight. Thanks to all for your concern, please keep your art high !

Un abrazo - Andrés (not viable ! not sustainable !)
