Lyr Add: New Year's Toast

20 Dec 01 - 07:02 PM (#613920)
Subject: Lyr Add: NEW YEAR'S TOAST
From: Jeri

I posted some of this for some previous year. I added a tune and a bit more to the lyric.

Here's the tune (MIDI). [Link updated] (I know, I know...I got a bit carried away the third time through, but I had fun.)

NEW YEAR'S TOAST

Here's to the bridges we've burned
Here's to the corners we've turned
Here's to the pain we've survived
Here's to just staying alive

Here's to the wrongs we forgave
Here's to the works we have made
Here's to the battles we fought
And the victories won, dearly bought

Here's to the success of our daughters and sons
Here's to the health of less fortunate ones
Here's to the friends we've been lucky to find
The shoulders we lean on, the arms warm and kind

May we love, may we hope, may we dream, may we dare
May we look in our own souls and find our strength there
May we all live with laughter and love without fear
May we all have a Happy New Year

I second that, MMario. Jeri -- there's so much in your song that has applied to myself and my family this year. Thanks for putting into words so many of the emotions that I just couldn't put my pen around. Well and beatifully done, indeed.

Happy New Year, Áine

well - I've already been asked for the words - and the sheet music.

MMario, sheet music made from that MIDI would be a real mess, and I don't have time at the moment to do a proper job. Anybody else wants to have a play at it, please do.

I'm honored that someone asked! Tell me, did they learn about the song because you were sitting in your office singing it?

uh-huh. couldn't help it. had to sing it.

BTW - the midi sounds kinda neat with chorused piano, strings ensemble and french horn for parts one two and three respectively.

With any luck I will be singing this on the streets of Skaneatlas tomorrow - tho I can't garuntee it will sound like what you wrote. My brain seems to "folk-process" automatically. Will send you a tape after the weekend.

Well, the MIDI worked fine for me. You just don't have the right touch, MMario.
[grin]
Nice song, Jeri. You're so damn talented, it makes me jealous.

Animaterra, right click your mouse button on the link above.
Select "Save target as..."
Put it somewhere on your hard drive where you can find it later.

After you click on the link and listen to the MIDI, you can click on the MIDI player's "File" and "Save as..."
