Lyr Req: Wonderful Christmas Pig (Rolf Harris)

Does anyone know this? I think it's an old London Music Hall song.

Chorus is something like:

Perhaps you may think it's not all true
But I don't care a fig
I leave it to you, do you think it's true
This wonderful Christmas Pig?

Here it says it was recorded by Rolf Harris so someone should have the words

WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS PIG

Our own JohnP and his wife, in their band, "Telynor," have one on their Christmas album, "Off the Beaten Track," which has a Christmas Pig song, but the title they show is "Christmas Day." I just got the CD, so don't have the words down, yet. they list it as a Trad. English carol.

If you search for a thread in the past week about "Mudcatter on radio" you will find a link to a radio program on which they performed this song and it is archived, so you could give a listen. If you can't find the thread, holler and I'll dig it up.

Fantastic CD, btw, I highly recommend it, esp. if one likes medieval-type music with hurdy-gurdy, recorders, crumhorn, cittern and lots of other unusual instruments!

Thanks, Kat, but that song, a.k.a. "There Was A Pig Went Out To Dig," is a different animal, so to speak.

But thanks for pointing me to the radio program. I do have a couple of Telynor CDs, so I am familiar with them - not this particular CD though. I also have been known to crank away on the hurdy-gurdy :-)

But I'm still no closer to finding the Wonderful Xmas Pig. I suspect the Rolf Harris song is it. I should perhaps have posted my question before England went to sleep for the night.

Dear Anglo,

There is a Christmas song entitled, "The Wonderful Sucking Pig."

The 1st verse:

You all have heard of the Christmas Goose and the walloping great pie,
But I think to myself it's not much use to tell such a precious lie.
But I will tell you a wonder now, all true as I'm a sinner
About a wonderful sucking pig we had for Christmas dinner.

Is this a version of the one that you are thinking of?

I got this from a EFDSS magazine 1974.

It can also be found in "Marrow Bones" song book from the Hammond & Gardner Mss. Selected and edited by Frank Purslow. That again is EFDSS publication.

Perhaps this is not the best time to be picking a song connected with "Rolf Harris"
