Hey all, I am glad I finally found a good site for "banjoing." Anyhow, I am interested in starting to play. I want to play more of the bluegrass type of music. To put simply, something with a twang, and maybe some hillbilly and dualing banjos. What make / model / type of banjo would best suit me? Take into consideration I am new and don't wish to spends tons of cash...thanks.

And Pawn Shops - $50 - $150 is a good range to start in. I bought a no-name one for $50 at my local music store - has a great action and suits me fine for learning!

THE option is to run like crazy for the nearest therapist and see if they can figure out why you would want to play a banjo!!! *BG*

Just joking he said hidding behind the newly purchased banjo :-)

Seen worse than that suggested today Steve. Someone on alt.banjo asked:

"... I have an inkling to take up the Banjo. What do I need to consider? ..."

One reply starts:

"A frontal lobotomy. Alternatively, suicide with a gas oven <g>...

(It then goes on to give some good advice)

Listen to the new version of Foggy mountain breakdown, by Earl Scruggs and friends, that will give the fever not only for Bango but for other instruments as well.
