26 Dec 01 - 12:50 PM (#616546) Subject: RAF Woodbridge & Bentwaters From: Ditchdweller A posting about "The Worst Old Ship That Ever Did Sail" sparked a few memories off for me. In the summer of 1972, when I was a VERY green Sapper, my unit, 36 Engr. Regt. was on POLEX '72 in the depths of rural Suffolk here in the UK. In this we were tasked with building a pipeline to be used in offloading AVTUR from a Royal Fleet Auxilliary tanker lying off Orford Ness and getting it to the USAF bases at RAF Woodbridge and Bentwaters. Were any of you yanks there at that time? Either as servicemen/women or families? |
