Eva Cassidy

My mom heard of Eva Cassidy from the morning talk radio show on WLS. She asked for a CD for christmas, so I bought her 'Songbird'. She in turn bought me 'Time After Time'.

Wow! What a voice. Such talent, and was sad to learn she is already gone.

I am not good at describing voices, but think I can safely say hers is about as pure as I've heard.

Yes, I agree. She was a major talent and went before her time.
Ironically, someone gave me "Live From Blues Alley" for Christmas. I'm enjoying it.

Songbird will be the first CD I've bought in a long time and I'm really looking forward to it...

I just got Songbird on Monday, played it through immediately and love it. I look for something special in my female singers and Eva has it (also Ella, Sassie, Streisand, Garland, Dement, so she is in good company).

The other I bought is my very first Leon Redbone - say no more!

Cheers, Terry

Missed Eva some how. I will have to look and see if there is any of her work out and about here. Neil

There was a thread a while back called "Is the voice and instrument?" In reading that thread, I couldn't help but think of Eva Cassidy as an example that proves it definitely is. But I couldn't think of her first name at the time. Thanks for reminding me. What an instrument and how beautifully she played it!

Upon hearing her beautiful voice I immediately fell in love with it. And, like Kate Wolf, who's voice also was something that really affected you, she went, tragically, before her time.

I have planned to include her(Eva Cassidy) in the New Years Program I have put together for this Sunday. Looks like I now have to add Kate Wolf---I am running out of time in a 3 hr program.

Hope you will join us on the air or on the web: www.wfdu.fm In the NY NJ CT area 89.1 fm (WFDU). This Sunday 3-6 PM

If you have any thoughts you would like to share about Eva or any New Years thoughts you can e mail me: poohbah89@optonline.com

I hope you haven't left out Steve Goodman, Bill. Glad you're including Eva and now Kate.

I was trying to keep to people who passed on this year---willprdobably spend most of our 4 PM hour with that---but having Eva and Kate played of course we will have to do Steve Goodman too---and Harry Chapin. Voices that left us some time ago.

A while back I used to do a regular feature of such voices for about 15 or 20 minutes. If you would like that revived please let me know---either here or at poobah891@yahoo.com .

Another thing that might be nice would be if some of you mudcatters would like to send me names and/or pieces by some of the voices that are gone and we might put an hour or so together once we accumulate a list. Do about, say, an hour like that with a bit of a bio of the artist and pperhaps your comments about them.

BTW, BH, A recent thread mentioned "the late Robin Hall." He was a favorite of mine, but I did not know he had left us. Was this recently?
