From: GUEST,londonjob@hotmail.com

Hay out there and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I am looking for the lyrics for a trad. Irish song calld "I know my love" + 3 other Irish songs I donĀ“t have the title on. The first begin with: "The wind, the wind, the wind blew high, the snow came thumberling from the sky". The next is about a child asking his mama to buy him a lovely big banana. The last one is about a boy who went to pictures but could not find a seat.... I really hope theta someone knows where I can find the texts...

Thank you! londonjob@hotmail.com

I KNOW MY LOVE

Wind blew high is part of I'LL TELL ME MA, second version here

The banana song: Oh ma, ma, will you buy me a, will you buy me a, will you buy me a
Ma, ma, will you buy me a, will you buy me a banana

Ma, ma, ma, will you buy me a, will you buy me a, will you buy me a
Ma, ma, ma, will you buy me a, will you buy me a banana

Yes, my son, I'll buy you a, I'll buy you a, I'll buy you a
Yes, my son, I'll buy you a, I'll buy you a banana

Oh ma, ma, will you peel the skin, will you peel the skin, will you peel the skin
Ma, ma, will you peel the skin of my lovely big banana

Yes, my son, I'll peel the skin, I'll peel the skin, I'll peel the skin,
Yes, my son, I'll peel the skin of your lovely big banana

Ma, ma, will you take a bite, will you take a bite, will you take a bite,
Ma, ma, will you take a bite of my lovely big banana

Yes, my son, I'll take a bite, I'll take a bite, I'll take a bite,
Yes, my son, I'll take a bite of your lovely big banana

Ma, ma, you ate it all, you ate it all, you ate it all,
Ma, ma, you ate it all of my lovely big banana

Ma, ma, you're a dirty pffft, you're a dirty pffft, you're a dirty pffft,
Ma, ma, ma, you're a dirty pffft, ate all my banana

# Skinny malinky long legs, big banana feet

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, it was a skipping rhyme where I grew up around Glasgow. I also don't remember any other verses.

Giok, does "malinkey"/"malinky" have a meaning?

And a question to londonjob:

Could it be you have a recording of

I'll Tell My Ma, The Banana Song and Skinny Malinkey

by Bakerloo Junction?

Just wondering as you request these 3 and I have these in my personal database as a 3-part song on one recording, performed by Bakerloo Junction.

And "I know my love" is on the same double CD...

Nope, skinny malinkey is a bit like ally bally, (as in Coulters Candy), or even dare I say it twankey dillo. I think theyre just euphonious add-ons to make the song fit the actions it's sung with. Just another old work/play song, like shanties or field hollers.

Alternative version with different 3rd line, as recited by Salford primary schoolchildren on coach trips (with sidelong glances at teacher to see if they'd be in trouble for using a rude word):

Skinny malinkey long legs, big banana feet
Went to the pictures, an' couldn't find a seat
When the picture started, Skinny malinky farted

Will, you buy me that
Will you buy me that?
Hey Maw, will you buy me that,
Will you buy me that banana?

Aye, son, I'll buy ye that,
I'll buy ye that,
I'll buy ye that.
Aye, son, I'll buy ye that,
I'll buy ye that banana.

Hey, Maw, will ye peel the skin,
Wil ye peel the skin, will ye peel the skin?
Hey, maw, will ye peel the skin,
The skin o' ma' banana?

Aye, son, I'll peel the skin etc

Hey, Maw, dae ye want a bit etc

Aye,son, ah want a bit etc

Hey, Maw, ye've had it, chum, etc

Skinny Malinky Long Legs, big banana feet,
