Naemanson to wed!

01 Jan 02 - 06:20 PM (#619591)
Subject: Naemanson to wed!
From: Naemanson

Well, I have been hinting at it for a while but I had to make sure the word got to others first, including my kids.

As you may have noticed I have not been much in evidence lately. Back at the beginning of August I met a lovely woman. We began dating and on December 14, 2001, while waiting for Harry Potter to start, she turned to me and asked me to marry her. I said "yes".

So we will tie the knot in a huge music party and gathering on July 14 at Camp Ketcha in Scarborough, Maine. If you want to attend you may start planning now. This could be a good Mudcat gathering.

This is only the first in a number of major changes in my life. My last daughter goes off to college in August and by Christmas my wife and I hope to be living and working somewhere in Europe. I haven't decided where, and I am not really fussy. I work for the US Government and will do so there so it will be in conjunction with military bases, NATO facilities, or the State Department.

Wish me luck. It's going to be a wonderful year.

It couldn't happen to better and more deserving man, Brett. You know that all of my warmest and best wishes go with you and your new lady as you embark upon your new adventures.

Who knows? I might even make it to the wedding. I heard somewhere that there's a train now that goes to Portland.

Congratulations!

Congrats, best wishes, huzzah, et al! I've just marked the calendar, and since there will not likely be a snowstorm, Bat Goddess and I will most assuredly be in attendance for this most delightful and auspicious event.. I even know a song which makes mention of this very date.

Be well -- Tom

Thanks all. We are very happy with each other. And we each have a happy disregard for most marriage customs. If you make it to the wedding you will find the atmosphere casual and the fun infectious. There is very little you might associate with a formal wedding except that we love one another and want to spend the rest of our lives together. And we want our friends to witness this event.

Bill, I will keep that base at Menwith Hill in mind. England would be our first choice not only for the music but also because we have a head start on learning the language. (Grin!) Oh! And because I would really enjoy the work. Yeah! that's it, the work!

Back home there was an old man (82) who was getting married for the first time. His buddy asked him why he waited so long, and he said"If you get a good one, she's worth waiting for, and, if you get a bad one, you dont have long to live with her."

Brett, first let me also wish you the very best. As you can see we are all very happy for you and I'm sure the two of you are in for a fine life. Though we've never met 3D, I am a believer in the words that are expressed here and most times I'm right in the feelings I have. Karen is a big time lurker....has always been a lurker....and her opinions rarely are too far wrong. She has always thought of you as one of the finest people around here.....You're very much a favorite of hers. Both of us could not be happier that something great has come your way......You deserve it!

I saw awhile back that you made a brief mention of this in another thread and a few days ago I started a thread about last year's resolutions....Click Here and read my first post on the thread and if you want, go and see what you said. Most of us aren't too good at keeping resolutions but I believe that last year you won first prize! Nice when a dream comes true..........

All the Best,

Pat and Karen

Many congratulations Brett. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

One word of caution. Saying something like, along the lines of, just by example picked out of the clear blue sky, "My last daughter goes off to college in August ..." when you're about to get hitched, is what they call tempting fate, my friend.

Nah, I don't mean anything by that.

Willie-O, yeah, that could be tempting fate but the kid can go live with her mother if she doesn't go off to college. Of course, she sees that as a fate worse than death.

Pat, thanks for posting that New Year's Resolution thing. I had forgotten all about it. I missed on the weight loss part of it but seem to have hit the mark on the others. All in all 2001 was a pretty good year.

Rebecca is concerned at who might show up if I invite my Mudcat friends but how could I not invite you all. As we know, when 'catters gather they turn out NOT to be internet crazies but respectable, talented, and caring people. Our chosen marriage site is big enough to host any and all who show up and I have confidence that this bunch will be well represented.

Notice, Brett, how considerate your pals in Roll & Go have been not to break this story. I, for example, haven't even posted a song in honor of the proposed event, but maybe it's time to muse... "Ol' horse, ol' horse, what brought you here?"..."You can lead a horse to water but you can't grow moss on his back"...Well, I'm sure I'll think of something appropriate for such a charming couple...Would you like a set of "squigglies" for a wedding present?;~)

Heartfelt and joyful congratulations, Brett! I think while you were hinting around, I hinted at congrats in a PM, but here it is, unhinted, very sincere and right in front of God and everybody.

It'll be easy for Tom and I to remember your "Other Anniversary" (you ARE going to celebrate Dec. 14th, too, aren't you?), as well, because our "Other Anniversary" is Dec. 15 (double anniversary of when we met and a year later decided to get married). Actually, you're one up on us -- we skipped the asking part and just found ourselves planning the par-- I mean, wedding.

It's gonna be a GREAT year all around!

Actually, Mary, at the last chanty party I bought a new hat! It's clean and white and completely acceptable in all venues and social gatherings. Of course, I refuse to wear it until it has some break in time. I have to tread on it for a while and the cat has to add her contribution.

For the wedding I will break from my traditional garb of jeans and Tee-shirt and wear a shirt with buttons. Rebecca says she may wear a dress.

Charley, you can keep your collection of sqigglies! I don't need to increase my ownership of material objects just before my move to Europe.

Murrey, how much do you want to keep quiet? Do you want the catering job? Let's talk!

Actually, Murrey, I thought you might like to put down the work for once and just enjoy yourself. But then also thought of some of the delicious goodies you make and I wanted a good batch of them for the gathering too.

I am hoping that we will be overflowing with musicians and everyone will be playing, singing, eating, and drinking. Depending on how many RSVP I am planning on having at least one keg of Shipyard or Gritty's.

I couldn't be more pleased for Naemanson, and at their partiuclar choice of each other.

I'm more concerned about their plan to relocate well beyond the borders of Maine by next fall. There's this haunting song echoing in my head that I heard Margaret Walters and John Warner recently sing in Australia, which sounded vaguely familar so when I got back I confirmed that Garnet Rogers as well as Bok, Trikett & Muir also sing versions; anyway the chorus runs:

For they marry and go as the world rolls back,
They marry and vanish and die;
But their spirit shall live on the outside track,
As long as the years go by.

It's part of a poem by Henry Lawson called "The Outside Track."

Benjamin....falling in love is like some one pulling a carpet out from under your feet...you don't think it will happen...you don't realise it is happening...and then it happens and you fall flat on your face....but unlike with the carpet...you land on something soft and cushiony and warm....it is the most wonderful feeling in the world...save perhaps for an applause....

Subject: RE: Naemanson to wed!
From: Benjamin

Susan, are you sure? It's had quite a while to come true now.

Nathan, I've heard about falling love. Still hasn't really happened. Though I do know that wonderful feeling you get when the audience applauds, not out of sympathy. At times it almost seems like I've lived for that.

Brett, I sure don't believe it's happening right now. But it very well could happen some day.

Subject: RE: Naemanson to wed!
From: Naemanson

It will, Benjamin. The best advice I ever got was not to go looking for love. Relax, enjoy life, sing, make merry, and suddenly that carpet will slide out from under your feet and down you go.

Murrey, you are on! OK, gang, now we have lined up a caterer. And Murrey is one of the best!

Some of the non-traditions we plan on, just so you know, is that this wedding is going to be a pot luck, music party. It just happens to include a wedding.

Oh, and I heard from my fiancee that she has a list of 75 friends and relations to invite! I hope my own side won't let me down by under-representing my side of the party!

Brett, Love,
Now that you're taken, can I start using your "pick-up" line? If I hang around the bus terminal long enough and (smiling sweetly) say "I am looking for a man I don't know...could you be the one?", I'll bet I can find single men for all the Mudcat bachelorettes. Of course, I am talking quantity not quality. And there is always the chance I will be picked up for soliciting...but that would make for a great ballad. How many do we need to match Rebecca's 75 guests?

Well, there's the Roll & Go extended family, which probably overlaps somewhat with Rebecca's list; there's Brett's family; there's assorted felines; there's the squiggly family; the dead horse and the dead dog; the entire 4th and 5th grade at a South Portland elementary school; various bill collectors...it's really hard to say.;~)

Well, I have quite an extended list of guests myself without my Mudcat friends. Still it would be nice to have a good representation from the old 'Cat. I know Curmudgeon and Bat Goddess will be there as well as Jeri, Kendall, and Sinsull. Then there is Charley Noble, Dahlin, Brian, Uncle Jacque, Murrey, and probably a few others I haven't mentioned. I'd like to see Barry and family and a few more if possible. The site has plenty for a family to do together and lots for kids to do on their own. The water areas will have lifeguards so they should be fairly safe.

Music should be plentiful. I expect to have a wonderful song circle in full swing. Plus I intend to ask some people for particular songs to be sung to help celebrate the event.

However, you may not. When we watched Shrek Rebecca expressed an interest in a dress like Princess Fiona. And I may wear a button up shirt rather than a tee-shirt.

Thanks, Sam, I hope to get over there to the old world so you guys can meet her. She's pretty special.

Jets, free reed people are always welcome. Come on along!

Charley, I don't think stripes would look good at a wedding so don't bother with the special order.

I wasn't going to refresh this. Then I was. Then I decided not to.

But I am so proud and happy that she chose me and I am so much in love I decided I might as well. I want to share this with as many on my Mud-buddies as I can.

In an effort to refresh this and make it clear to my friends they are invited I offer the following:

If you want a written invitation please PM me with your mailing address. If you feel comfortable showing up without such a thing I will provide full details here or on a continuation thread.

Brien, Rebecca has requested that you prepare a Gaelic song to be part of the ceremonial musical offerings. I agree wholeheartedly.

Remember, July 14, 2002, will be the party of the century. Be there or be square.

Brett:

Congratulations!!! I would really like to make it to your wedding on July 14 - the music will be fabulous (and so will the beer.

I don't know if Charmion and I can get to Maine that day, but if you don't see us we wish you all the best.

Hi Brett, just came across this. I saw my name above, seems there may have been a question on your part as to my (& hopefully Justine too) making it, no question here. See you both there if not before. Lots of long nights & happy days. Barry
