Lyr Req: I Will Be Here (Pierce Pettis)

Subject: I am the friend you cannot lose
From: Rex

Hi all, I heard this fine song on an NPR station and tried to track it down on the net. No luck. I'm just hoping that one of you have run across it. The parts I can remember go like this:

I am the friend you cannot lose,

Like the one you did not choose,

I will be here.

Not much I know but I hope someone out there knows it. Thanky,

Rex

I WILL BE HERE
Pierce Pettis, Let's Have Lunch Music (ASCAP)

You make a lot of money
You make a lot of friends
But when you lose that money
A lot of those friendships end
When you lose that job
Lose that house
Lose that car
Lose that spouse
I will be here

You spend a lot of time
Till there's no time left
You become a stranger
You don't even know yourself
You can never write
Never call
You can surround yourself with walls
But I will be here

[CHORUS]
I am the friend you cannot lose
I am the one you did not choose
I am the friend who loves you still
I am the one who always will be here
I will be here

It would take a lot of work
To drive me away
I can take a lot of hurt
I'm willing to share your pain
No, you don't impose
You don't intrude
I'll never turn my back on you. no no
I will be here

Eye for an eye
Such a bitter rule
It was only made to be obeyed by fools
There is no debt
There is no score
Forget it, that's what friends are for
I will be here

[CHORUS]

You will find this on Pettis' "Chase The Buffalo" CD 1993 Windham Hill. I believe he plays this with his guitar in open D tuning

...so this was a real urgent request, huh?

Well, urgent as such things go. This is the first chance I've had to come back for a look. But that is the one alright. Thanks for tracking it down Mr. Hardly. You got the words, who wrote it, on what CD and even how to set up the guitar to play it. I don't think you left anything out.
