Blurb from old "The Ludlows" LP album jacket: "A beautiful and tragic Wexford ballad of 1798 where a girl watches her sweetheart's execution for his part in the abortive uprising. Tom Moore, a piper in Dublin--and a Wexford man--gave the song to Sean [Loughran]." I love the song but can't catch all of the words. Thanks very much. Up Wexford! |

There is a drop down menu there; choose Forum Search. That is where I found it. Lots of stuff is posted that has not been added due to time constraints. |

And this here mudcat-newbie thanks you once again. / Also the "Carroll Ban" lyrics to which you directed me are part of an Irish Newfoundland Music discussion thread which I am now greatly enjoying, so I've doubly benefitted. Seeing the longstanding 'Who's the Best Folk Singer' topic on here, I was tempted to nominate Great Big Sea. However, I must not be disloyal to Liam Clancy. Us old fellers gotta stick together. :) (btw I see we may call him Dr. Clancy now: recent honorary Doctorate of Letters from University of Limerick. Tommy Makem too. Come a long way since they last shook hands. Remarkable.) |
