I'm trying to find the words to the 60's song 'Strange Walking Man' by Mandrake Paddle Steamer.

Help appreciated. Thanks

Kadsa

"Strange Walking Man" performed by Mandrake Paddle Steamer is available on the compilation CD "Psychedelia at Abbey Road: 1965-1969" and on the 4-CD compilation "Mojo - Acid Drops Spacedust and Flying Saucers."

It appears they were a popular band in the UK, judging from the number of hits I got on Google, but I've never heard of them, nor most of the other performers on these CD's. I guess this part of the British Invasion never made it to the US. (Or maybe I just didn't get out enough.)

An audio clip is available on this page and this one.

STRANGE WALKING MAN
Briley/Engel
As sung by Mandrake Paddle Steamer on "Insane Times: 25 British Psychedelic Artefacts from the EMI Vaults" (2007)

There was a strange walking man
Leaving footsteps on my lawn.
He cried, "I can't understand.
My love left just before the dawn.
From velvet valleys of dreams
By her leaving I was drawn,
And in my sorrow it seems
That I'm too blind to see the dawn."

The misty morning heard his cries,
Felt tears from his poor wasted eyes.

"My love went with the sunrise
Wish I could see the sunrise
Wish I could see the sun today."
How could I stand and explain
The truth to his blind trusting eyes?
But could I love her again,
Knowing I won her love with lies?

The lonely strange walking man
Thanking me to help him see,
But could I just take his hand
And tell him she lay next to me?

I followed footprints he made in the frost
Across the dewy lawn where he was lost.

Is that his shadow I see?
Why does his face escape me?
Where is the strange walking man?
Now I'm a strange walking man,
And in my sorrow now it seems
That I'm a strange walking man,
Searching ... for a dream.
Now I'm a strange walking man—
