I have the lyrics to this but again the chords have me buffaloed, ( In Buffalo do they say Rochestered?) Can anyone supply these chords for me? I've looked in the database and done a thread search already, No luck. Thanks for the help.

Sorcha,

Thanks for looking but no, the song I'm after is by Elvis Costello and Mick Maloney. It was used as the anthem and song for "The Long Journey Home" about the Irish in America a few years back. It's one of those cases where the simple song has me stumped.

This is it here. I have a recording by The McKnights; it's excellent.

Thanks

Don

LONG JOURNEY HOME

If on every ocean the ship is a throne,
And for each mast cut down another sapling is grown,
Then I could believe that I'm bound to find
A better life then I left behind.

But as you ascend the ladder
Look out below where you tread,
For the colors bled as they overflowed:
Red, White and Blue, Green, White and Gold

So I had to leave from my country of birth,
As for each child grown tall, another lies in the earth;
And for every rail we laid in the loam,
There's a thousand miles of the long journey home.

But as you ascend the ladder
Look out below where you tread
For the colors bled as they overflowed:
Red, White and Blue, Green, White and Gold

Don, can we make that Paddy Moloney instead of Mick? I still didn't find anything helpful. Somebody help Don, here!

Elvis Costello and Anúna do a magnificant job on this song in the cd "Long Journey Home," original soundtrack, BMG 09026-68963-2. I seldom buy soundtrack albums because they often have a lot of chopped-up stuff, but this one, produced by Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains, is superb.
Lots of other good songs by good people. The booklet included with the cd has the words to all of the songs.
Under copyright, it may be a while before the chords show up on the net.

Sorcha,

Yeah, we can call him Paddy Maloney if you want to. I don't suppose they are related? I know I saw Paddy Maloney and read Mick Maloney

Mary V: When no one has added to a thread in the last 24 hours, it drops off the screen and is no longer visible, unless you search for it, or set your "age" filter to a limit of more than one day.

To bring a thread back to the top of the list, all you have to do is add any message to it. If someone wants a thread to reappear so someone else will see it, but has nothing else to say, they sometimes just post the single word "refresh."
