12 Jan 02 - 11:44 AM (#626610) Subject: Snug open on Sunday - From: Steve in Idaho OK Folkies, C&W buffs, Ragtime Annies, Slack key players, Blues slumpers, Jazz timers, Celtic beaters, Flute tooters, Accordian squishers, Jigg jumpers, Accapela singers, and others of this magnificent forum. The Snug will be open on Sunday at 11 AM Mountain Time (We are on Daylight Savings although I haven't a clue what bank they are depositing it in) USA. Come play, listen, chat, and enjoy this little space in time. Someone with more mathematical skills than I will need to compute the time for the UK Folks (I am a social worker due to my ineptitude with math). Password is still "dt" (no quotes of course - those were strictly for emphasis - you know an attention getter?). Hope to see you there - Steve |

13 Jan 02 - 11:06 PM (#627412) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: SDShad Well, it's a darned good thing it's an R-rated room, then. Don't know if they'd allow sinning in KatRose's room! :-) Goodness me, wasn't that a time? I've missed the Mudcat song circles immensely, and this one was one of the best times I've had online in a long time. I recall there was an occasional custom in the HearMe days to post what you'd sung, so without further ado, I sang (with ample backup from Beth):
Tear My Stillhouse Down--Gillian Welch We turned out not to have company after all (just as well, as I was coming down with a bit of a sore throat), so we popped back in at the very end and I sang "The Parting Glass," when there were only a couple of others left in the room. Then, not wanting the fun to end, we went to the Acoustic Guitars Live room, where we did Kate Wolf's "Across the Great Divide," and then to KatRose's room, where we did Townes' "Tecumseh Valley," and "Zumbro Valley" and "Tear My Stillhouse Down" again. I know, I know, sore throat, should've been resting, but dang we were having too much fun. And I'll tell you, though we had grand fun in those rooms, and there's tons of talent there (and good taste in material, including Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, and a guitarist who reminded me very much of both Chet Atkins and Les Paul), I'd still stack up the quality of what we heard in our much smaller Mudcat Snug room against any of what we heard there--and while our style of music is welcomed with open arms and indeed sought out there, the Snug is more our style. Y'all did yourselves proud. Great thanks to those who moderated, who performed, and who hung out and listened. And Liz, it's only by some mysterious providence that I wasn't taking a sip of my water or wine at the several times when you would've guaranteed it shooting out my nose. :-) Shad |
14 Jan 02 - 11:36 AM (#627654) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: Steve in Idaho Well just a post note on Sunday's session. It was a grand time to say the least. I'd like to Thank all of the folks who came in and participated - both as listeners and performers. This exceeded all my expectations and as I had already obligated our computer to my partner for finishing up our taxes at 3 PM my time (four hours of non stop music!) I left a bit early. I dare say that we will do this again next Sunday. Same time and station. I would like to make a special mention of Mary in Kentucky - Thank You for being the person that greeted everyone and ensuring all were acknowledged and welcomed. Made my job as administrator much easier! Thanks again - Steve |
14 Jan 02 - 08:06 PM (#628017) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: cyder_drinker Well Thanks Steve for being such a good Admin! MAde sure everybody got their turn and sang some damn fine songs too! |
15 Jan 02 - 02:23 AM (#628195) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: Liz the Squeak OK, it was was an eclectic evening, I sang (not in this order): Twice Daily - Adge Cutler - thanks Wurzel for the inspiration. Moved through the fair - by request even! 16 Stones - it had to be done. Kerry is no more - it was all I could find to follow the other Mary, who was merde chaud!! Fantastic voice, wonderful material, amazing playing, I hate her!! I can't remember the last time I had such fun in the Snug, although it was frustrating for those on the outside who couldn't get in because of size limitations. Any chance we could make the next one open?? LTS |
15 Jan 02 - 03:11 AM (#628200) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: Mark Cohen I'd vote for an open room, myself. The HearMe sessions used to have 15 or 20 people, and they worked fine, even without the "hand-up" -- just took an aware and active moderator who could draw out the wallflowers. (Which we had on Sunday!) I'm glad I got a chance to play my new guitar--thanks, Frank from Toledo, for the program that holds down the control button--and to realize how much more practicing I have to do! But it sure were fun, and great to hear such gooooood music. I'd love to see this on a regular basis. Next week I'll be visiting my 7-year-old daughter in Colorado so I'll probably miss it, but I will make an effort to show up as often as possible. Aloha, Mark |
15 Jan 02 - 05:28 PM (#628592) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: Mrs.Duck We had great fun. Geoff played a tune on the banjo and I sang Thanksgiving Eve, Northern Echo and I'm going home to Georgia (with Geoff on vocal backing of course). Hope we get another like it although I'll have to start learning some new songs. Not too much sinning going on although we did crack open a packet of malteezers and Liz went off halfway to immerse herself in melted white chocolate!! See you all next time. |
15 Jan 02 - 05:40 PM (#628596) Subject: RE: Snug open on Sunday - From: Steve in Idaho I've sent a couple of inquiries about how to become a real admin - not on someone else's name - and if we get a huge showing again we could open it up I think. So until I hear from one of the originators I think I'm stuck with what we have. It is also nice to have a small group for me to learn how to admin with. I had to red dot one person due to an equipment malfunction and it took me a bit to figure it out. But it was great! I even ended up with a kiss from Miz Liz *Blushing* for my efforts! Thanks all and we'll do it again this Sunday! Steve |
