Does this sound familiar to anyone? Don't know the author, can't verify the title,am not certain the above is exactly right, doesn't appear to be in the DT....but the damned thing is haunting me.....help!

Shawn Colvin sings the same song on a Sony cd. The authorship is given as S. Colvin. Who stole from whom?

Shawn Colvin wrote it. The lyrics are a bit different from the one Alison Kraus recorded, but not much. I have it by Colvin on two different recordings, and she sings two different versions. (There's a verse left out in the later recording.) I'll look for my CDs and post at least one of the versions.

The lyrics come from the notes to the CD "Fat City" by Shawn Colvin on Columbia CK 47122

She also sang this song on a tape she sold at gigs. This has been released as a CD called "Live '88" from Plump Records, PL7901-2. (I much prefer this simple version just her and her guitar.)

In the booklet accompanying Alison Krauss' CD 'Every Time You Say Goodbye', the song is credited to Shawn Colvin, copyright Sacred Songs Ltd ASCAP.
