17 Jan 02 - 08:43 AM (#629639) Subject: JohnJ going to Clearwater, Florida From: John J I'm visiting my father in Clearwater between 5th and 19th February. It's a rather sad trip, his wife died last week and he's feeling pretty low. She wasn't a young lady by any means (84yrs), but they'd been very happily married for 10years and it was a terrible shock for him (and me). He's not a US citizen and has limited 'staying' power, 6 months maximum. It's a bloody shame really, but the day after she was taken ill they had as appointment to sign and seal some documentation which would allow him to extend his stay. They couldn't make the appointment and now he's stuffed. Anyway, enough of the gloom. I'm visiting dad, and I was wondering what the (music) action is in the area. I sing a bit, play melodeon a bit (mainly British traditional stuff), and drink a lot of beer. Any suggestions welcome. Also if anyone has any suggestions how my father can (legally!) extend his stay in USA, I'd be delighted to hear. He owns his home there, and also has a small house in England. Thanks, John |

It is a great place to drink beer and watch the sunset over the gulf of Mexico. There is a patio that ends on sugar white sand and they have microbrews and a good Grouper Sandwich. Check it out. Click here And have one for me, I love the place, I even wrote a song about it. Regards, Fortunato |

Might be worth checking out... Safe trip, Murph |

17 Jan 02 - 11:44 PM (#630230) Subject: RE: JohnJ going to Clearwater, Florida From: GUEST,BigDaddy By all means bring your instrument and your voice. Let me know where you'll be and when and I'll buy you a pint. I don't have addresses and phone numbers at hand for FL legislators but I'd bet that there would be one in your dad's district that could help with his situation. Possibly worth contacting the Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times as well. It's a true human interest story and the details are bound to attract the sort of attention the situation needs. Keep us posted. Cheers! |

I'll also take you up on the offer of the pint! Murph10566: Thanks, I'll try the pub, it won't be too far from dad's place. Harpgirl: Thank you, I've checked the site out. There seems to be a huge amount going on around Sarasota. I'll have to investigate! I'm now most certainly bringing the melodeon! John |
