17 Jan 02 - 11:58 AM (#629688) Subject: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: SharonA I can't open threads, I can't post to the Help Forum. If I refresh the regular Forum, the most recent message I get is the one dated 10:25 am EST (whether I use www.mudcat, loki.mudcat or any of the others). I wonder if I can even create this thread? Here goes.... Sharon P.S. – Well, when I hit "Submit Message", it acted as if it went through, but I can't view this thread on-screen. Got another Error message when I tried to refresh to see the new thread. But I can hit the "Back" button to get myself to the "Create Initial Message for Thread" window. Wonder if this P.S. will post? |

17 Jan 02 - 03:54 PM (#629876) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: GUEST,Genie Often when I try to post, I get a message saying "unable to contact www.Mudcat.org" or that the message attempt "timed out." Then I try again, and when I finally get to view the thread again, I find I've posted in duplicate or triplicate. How can I know if a post really didn't go through? (Sometimes I try to go back and check the thread again before re-trying the post, but, expecially in heavy-use times, when the forum is loading very slowly to begin with, this becomes quite time-consuming.) Genie P.S., It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm posting through AOL, Netscape, or Explorer. |

Apparently, folks started posting to both before one could be deleted. This was that thread: 17-Jan-02 - 11:55 AM Subject: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: SharonA

17 Jan 02 - 09:30 PM (#630163) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: GUEST,Genie Sarge, it's not just on one computer. (It's at least 4 of them.) Also, I'm not sure what "defragged" means, but I do run a disk-repair program PRN (sometimes that means running it frequently). I was just wondering if that's a common experience, since I do see a lot of duplicate posts in the forum. Genie |

18 Jan 02 - 08:30 PM (#630823) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: Irish sergeant If it's more than one computer it isn't you. A defrag basically (As I understands it anyhow with my limited knowledge) takes all the stuff you delete, which stays in the computer but is unaccessable and erases it so it doesn't tie up space. Error message From: Ebbie What does it mean when the text box doesn't raise high enough for the Submit Message or the SEND button to show? It may be my own computer- but it hasn't happened before. I'm trying to send a PM to katlaughing, as it happens, and I can't get it done. At the moment, it appears that this one will go- maybe it's just SEND that isn't available to me? |

19 Jan 02 - 09:11 AM (#631043) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: catspaw49 Basically Ebbie, it means we don't want to hear from you. You're stuck up there in the 49th state, buried under 54 feet of snow and 23 hours of daylight and you keep plaguing us with the twaffle and twaddle of the minutiae that comprises the entirety of your pitiable life. When you sent out that thing, Ode to a Crack in my Floor, we all knew you were three notes shy of a chord. The thaw will come soon Ebbie and when it does, there will be a couple of nice young men dressed all in white knocking on your door with a fashionable jacket with extra long sleeves for you to wear. Go with them and they'll take you to a nice place where you can have a little tray of colored sand and a tiny rake to play with all day long. So just sit back and relax and think of how much fun you'll be having after they arrive. Spaw |

Oh there's a wide jar in my door
Ol' Spawth was tired of it all
The crack in my floor, it is wide
I'll dig up Ol' Spawth, crack the clay

19 Jan 02 - 03:31 PM (#631213) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: Amos Wow, Ebb!! Ya must 'a found that missing Submit button, I guess!! Usually you need to notice there are two frames on your screen -- the message post box and the larger thread windows (the Netscape or IE window). Dragging down inside the message window will force it to scroll down, and scrolling down in the larger window moves the whole box up. One way or another you should be able to bring the bottom where the Submit and Clear Entries buttons are. A |

19 Jan 02 - 03:36 PM (#631216) Subject: RE: Help: Is it me or Mudcat? Error message From: Genie Naw, Spaw, that's not the one. [That's the one I get when my Microsoft programs decide to do battle to the death with non Microsoft ones.] Sarge, some of the computers on which I've had this problem get subjected to "Spring Cleaning" PRN. Usually I get this message at a time when my internet connection is just plain being slow on everything or at a time when mudcat is especially busy [as Gargoyle suggests.] Problem is, of course, that the browser tells me a connection was not made when, as I later learn, it obviously was.
