BS: Why did the Cat Come Back???

20 Jan 02 - 08:12 PM (#631877)
Subject: Why did the Cat Come Back???
From: Little Hawk

Now that we've gotten to the bottom of why Barbara Allen rejected Sweet William and why John Henry hammered till he died....I think it's time we got around to solving a much bigger puzzle. Why did the cat come back? Why did he keep coming back?

You would think that after being shot, mauled, burned, defenestrated, castrated, de-clawed, stabbed, squashed, drowned, blown up, roasted, minced, run over, strangled, etc...he would just go somewhere else! I would.

So why did the cat come back?

Go to it. :-)

Please confine your comments to William Shatner crap.

That way, at least we have a tangible reason to hate you

why, I come back **here** because there is lots of smelly crap left in the sandbox by GUESTS, and I have this overwhelming urge to cover it up--knowing full well that it is a hopeless task.

Still, being true to the essential spirit of CATNESS, I must try.

He was able to come back because he has nine lives.

He chose to come back because he knew his presence vexed his owner, and after all, he is a cat.

Ha! Ha! Ha! God, how I laughed when I read GUEST's post! The acronyum ROTFLMAO just doesn't go far enough to express it.

Look, GUEST, if you need a tangible reason to hate me...post your full name and address please. I will send you, by UPS ground, a dead fish or a dog turd from the neighbour's mutt. Then, when you open the package, you will have a tangible reason to hate me!

In the meantime you're just going to have to settle for intangible reasons like Shatner and the Cat. :-)

As for the rest of you - Excellent! Several inspired and incisive answers already, right on the money. I believe we'll have this one solved toot sweet.

As the personal possession of two cats who bully me unmercifully (one just moved in one day and said "Hi, I'm your new cat", and the other was my daughter's idea) it is clear to me that the cat came back from pure cussedness, ego, and "just because it could". Then it stretched its claws on the best furniture and demanded food.

LittleHawk ~ keep 'em coming!!! I concur with most of the posters, and suggest that the folk process here refers both to the 9lives thing and to the incredible journey thing, where cats have returned halfway across the continent. 'catters will have personal experience with this phenomenon too. And the GUEST,a (Mud)cat who cares has made a point about our sandbox, but we can't let those hissing venom change this to a moderated forum. Big cats are dangerous, but pussies like GUEST [anon] like the odd one in the litter [both senses] do need to leave their droppings in this manner. He ain't housebroke, but The Mudcat Cafe may, over a few aeons, coax a little civility out of the poor stray. And, having seen some attention paid to his post, like the eponymous hero of our current thread's song, he will come back.

Guest [anon]: nothing personal :)

In a crowded room, Real Cats will gravitate to the person most violently hateful or allergic to cats. It's their way of revenenge for all those generations of gunny sacks pitched over the nearest bridge or cardboard boxes left out for the trash.

LH... have you seen the cartoon (animated feature ?) "The Cat Came Back" ? Don't know who dunit, but I'm pretty sure it was funded, at least in part, by the NFB. It's a riot. I kinda figured this thread was precipitated by it.

Lemme see, Loki would come back because a)there were still things she hadn't knocked to the ground and broken....b) there was still tp on the roll and it had to be unwound down the stairs like the last six rolls and c) she could still detect some small glimmer of sanity in her person/staff and it needed to be exorcised.

Old Mr. Johnson, in addition to being violently allergic, is one of the few remaining wearers of double-knit trousers (he bought 75 pair on sale in 1981). How could the cat resist an opportunity like that?

21 Jan 02 - 09:07 AM (#632129)
Subject: RE: BS: Why did the Cat Come Back???
From: SharonA

I think the answer is in the first verse: "Old Mr. Johnson had.... a yellow cat that wouldn't leave his home." The cat came back because he wouldn't leave his home! I've read several accounts of families moving with their cat, where the cat will leave the new digs – and his human "servants" – to return to his old home, his familiar territory that he's staked out already. I sincerely doubt that Mr. Johnson's presence had anything at all to do with the cat coming back.

Then there are the "serial" cats, the ones whose territory includes several homes in a ten block area. They make the rounds of each and every house, trying their best to look neglected. Our current favorite really did look thin six months ago, but now the only reason we can see his ribs is because his pop belly is pushing them out. Still, he is a gentleman and our other two cats did invite him in to join their pack. In his case, I think he also comes back to maintain his constituent base. I would not be surprised if he soon announces, in his own inimical fashion, that he is running for town selectboard.

Hmmmm....we ARE plumbing the very depths of the burning philosophical questions that have vexed our ancestors for generations.....!

I'd have to say the cat kept coming back from sheer bloody-mindedness, because regardless of what tortures were inflicted upon him, his continued presence ensured that he still had the uper hand!

What *I* want to know is why this cranky "Guest" keeps coming back if he hates everyone & everything here so much?

Theories?

Maybe the cranky GUEST just hates me. If so, that makes me feel pretty special! Arousing hatred in people one has never met, after all, isn't that easy, and is usually a feat accomplished only by famous people, like politicians, terrorists, and rock stars. Wow. I have definitely hit the big time, at least in GUEST's little world, where I am now almost as significant as, say...Michael Jackson...or Saddam Hussein.

Another of the miracles of Mudcat.

I'm glad GUEST posted anyway, because his/her post genuinely gave me the best laugh I have had in this whole thread so far, and I'm not being snide or sarcastic in saying that...it was just plain funny! I literally burst out laughing when I read it.

And there's one other thing I should not forget to say here: James T. Kirk! There.

Meanwhile, the wonderful cat comments just keep rolling in...

From: Little Hawk

Ah! So good of you to ask. In an early episode it was revealed to stand for "Talmadge". Later, however, in one of the Star Trek movies, it was altered to "Tiberius", which is far more impressive, and shows the increasing sophistication of the whole Star Trek mentality from the "Gee Whiz!" days of the late 60's to the multi-cultural wonders of the later 20th century.

"James Tiberius Kirk"

Just saying it gives a person the shivers, eh? :-) You know them aliens ain't gonna get too far messing with this starship captain, specially not when his T-shirt gets half torn off and he really gets mad! By golly, soon Bones will have reason to say those deathless words:

"He's dead, Jim."

Music, please!

Daaaa-Da-Da-Da-Da-Dummmmmm Daaaa-Daaaaa-Da-Da-Da-Da-Dummmmmmm

And so on...

You know, I've had just about enough of this. You people think you are so-o-o funny. You remind me of the pathetic losers who traipse around the country to Star Trek conventions, begging me for my autograph, wasting my valuable time, and living vicariously through the fictional events of a totally imaginative TV show, for god's sake! It's pathetic. (If it wasn't for the money and the women, I'd simply walk away from the whole thing with no regrets...)

But I have more serious problems than your lame attempts at humour on my mind. Lately I've been experiencing some sort of weird shift in consciousness...

I've been sleeping in late and staying up until all hours in smoky bars and music clubs. I've been talking about folk music incessantly! I've been impulsively purchasing expensive and exotic instruments that I have no idea how to play! I've lost all interest in football, chainsaws, and automatic transmissions, but not, thank god, in babes. I've become very engrossed in reading anything I can get hold of about Bob Dylan, and listening to old recordings of him from the 1960's. I've been spontaneously breaking into song at the drop of a G-string, which has gotten some pretty strange reactions from people, I can tell you.

I'm really concerned about it. I told my doctor all about it, and he sent me to an analyst. The analyst listened to the whole story, and you know what he said?

He said I'm turning into Rick Fielding.

Who the hell is Rick Fielding???!!

You people are somehow responsible for this. I know you are, and I am going to make you pay for it! Mark my words.

William Shatner

Little Hawk: "Talmadge"??? I never knew that. Which Star Trek episode is that from? I have a memory of the middle name "Tiberius" being mentioned in one of the original episodes, but I couldn't tell you which one, so it could be a faulty memory.

William:

If you have not yet learned the difference between imaginative and imaginary entities it might explain the difficulties you are having in your manic bipolar alterations between Bob Dylan (imaginative) and James Kirk (imaginary in the extreme).

Settle down. Turning into Rick Fielding is something we all go through at some point in our lives, and I know the changes can be unsettling. New hormones take some getting used to, and your best bet is to think twice about decisions so you don't go off in a weird direction just because of the imbalances brought on by this change. Remember, it may feel completely weird but it is actually normal!!!

If it gets any worse, take two aspirin and arrange for an office visit. They are well worth the proce!!

It is quite obvious why the feline repeatedly returned to the scene of the crimes against itself. It needs to be in the thick of things. As Freud mentioned in his treatise "Why Cats Return Even When Their Presence is Not Desired".. page 109 paragraph 3. Cats are prone to return to the scene of uncomfortableness, because they are curious. They can not believe that any real person does not wish to have them around. After all cats are the most beautiful of all of gods creatures and it makes no sense that they would not be welcome anywhere. This, is of course, the first time we have come across the wizardry of Id and Ego. This particular feline was of great service to me in my early work and indeed explained to me the actual meaning of Ego all the while denying that it applied to him. But you see the cat came back to do research... Dogs are man's best friend but cats think they RULE...
