FSGW 2002 Questions

22 Jan 02 - 11:31 PM (#633523)
Subject: FSGW 2002 Questions
From: WyoWoman

I know it's early, but I have to stake my claim to vacation time, and Biggus Mickus has just about convinced me to make my way Back East for this gathering this year. I need to know if I should build a day or two in at either end of the weekend for tangential getting togethers, or if the weekend is pretty much it?

Any idea yet who's planning on being there?

Thenkyew, WW

Micca seemed to have some luck last year getting "tangential" get-togethers. - But it probably depends on what you want to do.

1. Have fun.
2. Make music
3. Meet other Mudcateers

In alternating order.

WW, you would be most welcome to get together with me, tangentially or otherwise - before, after or during the Getaway!

Allan, if she does, could you arrange to have it filmed? I'm thinking of opening a porn store in Antarctica and I could use some grainy 8mm stuff.

'Spaw, if you want anything filmed, you're going to have to come to the Getaway and set it up your own damned self. *G* I burned out two cameras during the Adventure and came home with bupkis. Maybe you would have better luck.

Of course, WW will have to sign off on all filming rights (if, indeed, there would be anything to film).

If I could only hear her yodeling again, it would be worth the trip.

Having a bad day, Charlie? Just relax, take a deep breath, and then please confirm Getaway details. I seem to recall it's planned for Oct. 18-20, 2002, at Camp Ramblewood. Right?

Cheers, Nancy

The Getaway itself will start on Friday afternoon ,October 18, 2002. It runs into the wee hours of Sunday, October 20, with a farewell breakfast on Monday morning for those who stay over Sunday night. That's the whole of the official gathering.

The past year, lots of folks gathered at the Royal Mile in Wheaton, Md. on the Thursday previous, welcoming Micca and having a grand old time, singing and drinking all sorts of beers and ales. That was organized by Fortunato (Chance Shiver). And on the Tuesday afterwards, a number of folks went up to nearby West Chester, PA. to play with Max and gig on MudcatRadio. And others gathered in New Jersey, and Micca journeyed all the way to New England, where he became the excuse for a good celidh.

Surrounding tangential get-togethers seem to happen, and out-of-towners who choose to visit are the perfect excuse to set them up.

WyoWoman, we can plan something I'm sure for the Thursday before, quite a few Mudcatters from DC and out of town made it down last year, and we got in the 'getaway frame of mind' early. Just let me know and I'll put something together. Regards, Chance

And Curmudgeon and I really have to get there this year. No excuses. (We'll let Micca be the Excuse -- or will he PROVIDE the excuse? Oh well, nevermind.)

Ok then, I'll just trot my little tangentials up there and we'll have a good ol' time. Catspaw, you bring the grain and I'll bring 8mms. Allan C. I'll master some new yodels, just in your honor.

Biggus Mickus said he was going to try to organize something on Monday night, so I'll probably come in on Thursday and leave Tuesday afternoon and play and sing and frolic all in between.

Is it true that the showers are all co-ed? That's what Catspaw said ...

Yep, they are all co-ed. Funny story.............happened to me, so I am first person. I was in the shower on Saturday morning and this female voice says "Do you mind if I take a shower with you". And in my best basso profundo I reply "sure, c'mon in". I hear a gasp and the patter of feet down to the other end of the shower. Turns out this woman was there with her sister (that's the only clue you get) and had mistaken my shower for her sisters. I laughed so hard.

Pansy, you are going to have a blast!!

AW-riiiight!

The best part of Girl Sprout Camp was always the music anyway, so this will be a grown-up (well, after a fashion) all-music-all-the-time, co-ed tangential (Catspaw, that's "tangential," not "tanned ...") romp.

Farm out! Right Arm!

From: SINSULL

Oh OK. Be forewarned: Micca walks around stark naked in the morning. No mean feat given that it is freezing cold in there. But given a choice between Micca, stark naked, and Micca in his sleeping/running suit, I believe most preferred stark naked.

And there are probably no photos. Darn.

Mick, I'll bet you had some idea whose voice that was NOT before you replied the way you did. Then again, there isn't much room in those showers. Then again...

I'll have to get up earlier next year.

OK, folks, time to remind you that the Getaway draws ever nearer. Let's make this the best one yet! You will love the hospitality of the DC/Baltimore area folkies, you will enjoy the hell out of the sessions, you will learn and teach at the various seminars, you will contribute mightily to the nightly concerts, you will not sleep much, you will eat well, and there are plenty of the fabled "Big Mick Hugs" to go around. Who knows, there might even be the odd jar of the vile, dark stuff around.

Isn't it time you got to this legendary gathering? Make your plans, you won't regret it.

Mick

Hi, Big Mick: Yes, the Getaway has always sounded like a fine way to spend a weekend. And meet some Mudcatters along the way. Between having been in D.C. with the Gospel Messengers on June 15, coming down on my own to do a house concert on Friday, September 13th (I ain't afraid a no ghosts!) and having the NOMAD Festival here in Connecticut on October 25th I think I might have to actually stay home for a weekend, and pass on the Getaway again this year. I'm in a stretch right now where I've been out of town for five of the last six weekends. If I don't stay home occasionally, I may lose my legal residence in the state... You're dead on though about the hospitality of the D.C. folks! I'm really looking forward to coming down again in September.:-)

Jerry

Jerry, don't forget you're doing The Shiver Show (that's Shy/ver boys and girls)at the Royal Mile Pub on Saturday as well! As for staying home, once you come to the Getaway you'll think you are home, Mister Jerry. Chance

I'm trying to remember what I paid last year - and can't. Whatever it was - it was worth twice the price.

DC catters - take warning - I may well be looking for crash space on Thursday night!

I am reasonably sure I paid about $135 or so last year for the whole weekend's food and lodging from Friday evening until Monday morning. Prorated prices for shorter stays or daytime visits are always available. I am sure Charlie Baum will post this year's prices when they are confirmed.

Honey and I are looking forward to it again this year. We just bought a 34' 1967 Robertson wood boat and we named it "Getaway" in honor of these wonderful three days! WW, I really look forward to meeting you.

Again, if anyone needs lodging before or after, please just let me know. It's been a long while since we had a Mudcatter in our home and I, for one, miss it very much.

Love, Annamill

I can't wait!! The Getaway is a high point in my life each year and at the risk of being schmaltzy, the prospect of going back in 2000 literally saved my life. Jerry, I think you should rethink coming. You'll have a wonderful time. We only live once and there will be plenty of other weekends for staying home.

Hey, Mick, I hope we're on again for Cracker Barrel, and a ride to Silver Spring. Let's plan a get together in Silver Spring for Monday night. I don't want you to spend Monday night alone again this year.

Anna, great name for your boat. Can't wait to see it or at least a picture of it. Glad you are both coming again.

Seriously, the Getaway is a wonderful time.
