Lyr Req: Rock and Roll Survivor (Bruce Johnston)

Who can tell me what song starts like:

Well I'm tired of the whiskey
I'm a dried-out troubadour
There ain't no one's gonna miss me
when I pass right through that door

It was done probably in the 70s, type of music singer-songwriter with a little flavour of country.

I had this piece on a old cassette-tape, but a little after that verse the band stopped. I never found out who sang the song...

Bruce Johnston does a song called Rock and Roll Survivors of which one reviewers says "Johnston, like Randy Edelman, Tim Moore, and other quality songwriters from the era, has a pleasant voice, which is very effective on "Disney Girls." "Rock and Roll Survivors," with references to being a "dried out troubadour," is more like "C&W Survivor" ". So I assume that's the song. No lyrics around...

Actually, i think I was wrong there. Unless there are two songs by the same title, which may well be the case -- I found an MP3 of R&RS which says nothing about troubadours!

Thanks Amos!

Yeah! You could be right.
There was something that sounded like I like my country music, with a touch of modern soul (.....) rock and roll still survives in the next verse just before tape ended, but I'm not really sure if those words were correct.
But that match R&R and survive, I would think that it is the song!

Could you mail me the MP3 please, AudioGalaxy doesn't have it at the moment, it seems. My mail is k.vanderhoeven@chello.nl.
Thanks!

However, I corrected one mondegreen: I've been dryin' out through the door I'm a dried-out troubadour. There might be more; I haven't heard the whole song.

ROCK AND ROLL SURVIVOR
Bruce Johnston.

I'm a rock 'n' roll survivor and I'm feelin' mighty good.
I saved my money wisely and built a scooter made of wood.
Now I'm self-sustained and I'm self-contained. I don't need no credit card.
I've made my name, but I'm still the same, and the whole world's my backyard.

Well, I'm through with the whiskey and I'm a dried-out troubadour.
You know the Rainbow's gonna miss me when I don't pass through their door.
See, I've solved all their myst'ries. I don't need them anymore.
Oh, I'm through with the whiskey and I'm a dried-out troubadour.

I've been faithful to Lady Rock 'n' Roll,
But don't say I'm a cripple 'cause I feel and need to grow.
You see, I might try country music 'cause it's honest and sincere.
Oh, that good old country music, it's pleasin' to my ears.
If you hear that I'm playin' one time, stop on by.
You'll see what I've been sayin': Rock 'n' roll, I've survived.

[Sung by Bruce Johnston on his 1977 album "Going Public". Other people have recorded different songs with the same—or nearly the same—title.]

Bruce Johnston, is, of course, the "new kid" in the Beach Boys, a job he has held for 45 years so far.
