BS: What is indoor camping?

Call me slow or studid if you wish, but I keep seeing references to 'indoor camping' in various threads.

Can someone tell me what it means?

Thank you

Gill

I can tell you what gutter camping is.... but then we raised two sailors.

Was it indoor camping when I had a MudGather here? IS that how our place differs from a bed and breakfast?

I was indoor camping for a day and a half when the ice storm knocked out our power...

Thank gods we live in a place with a gas stove and water heater, and a fireplace...

I think it just means people bring a sleeping bag and claim a bit of floor space.

Crashing on the floor, and being able to avail yourself of facilities such as running water and flush toilets, and maybe a kitchen.

It does not in my experience imply campfires in the corridors.

Try a Google search on "Kenneth Williams", or "Danny La Rue" ....

I think Jeri and McGrath had it right. You get the advantages of being indoors (loos, weatherproof, etc), but probably less privacy than outdoor camping. Probably OK for people who went to boarding school.

At least if someone is snoring in the same room you can throw a shoe at them. If they are snoring in the next tent (or quarrelling) there is not much you can do.

And if needs be it's a lot easier to move your sleeping bag to another room in the middle of the night than to shift your tent.

Boarding school is a great preparation for all kinds of vicissitudes, not just indoor camping. Prison, being held hostage, shipwreck...Or of course running up against a malevolent wizard, if it was the right boarding school.

A lot of museums, zoos, and the like have programs where a group spends the night within the facility. Here, both the Center for Science and Industry and the Columbus Zoo are very popular with scout and school groups. The zoo incorporates a part of their Education Center building for "Indoor Camping" and COSI has a "convertible" lecture hall. The Ohio Decorative Arts Center also has a weekend program for young artists where they "indoor camp."

I do several re-enactment shows a year and usually have to opt for a brick tent (I need access to mains electric at night)

but theres nothing like a large room full of 60 hairy drunk snoring vikings to put you off indoor camping

For my wife, it's a night in a Hilton that hasn't been remodeled.

But it's not really indoor camping unless you put a big sheet over the dining room table and set your sleeping bag up inside there, then play your flashlight over the sides of the sheet, shining it through to the walls and ceiling, making funny shadow animal shapes with a free hand, whispering silly jokes and scary stories until someone yells at you to turn out the light, pipe down, and go to sleep!

It's what us UK morrismen do after we meet together for "a day of dance". In practice, some of us get absolutely rat-arsed (ie after drinking, dancing, playing and singing all day and into the night).
We then go back to our base, which is often in a school or village hall, and fall over (hopefully onto our own camp bed and into our own sleeping bag). Then we f*rt, belch and get up at regular intervals to get rid of some beer - all with the aim of communing with our friends(!?), ie keeping them awake all night!
Then, too early in the morning(!) there is the traditional English breakfast of greasy fried sausages, bacon, eggs, black pudding, (curried?) baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried bread and, if you are lucky, chipped potatoes - all washed down with some more beer!
Magnificent! It's what made our nation what it is today!

"Come fill up your glasses and let us be merry ...!"

I recall MC Fat turning up with a tent and asking the organiser which part of the Gym floor he should hammer the tent pegs into!
Quack!

You'd probably have a more restful and civilised time with the vikings than the morris men.

It's domitory sleeping where you have to bring your own bed. Most events that have it, work on theprinciple that everyone's going to be too drunk to care about who else they're sharing the room with ! Come to Stony Stratford and experience it in action.

Personally, I'll be in my caravan - especially if Kevin McGrath is wandering around all night moving his sleeping bag to different rooms.

Tone d' F Hark at the pot calling the kettle black, you drink more, snore louder & fart more than any one I know.

Most dome tent can be put up indoors with out pegs, thus indoor camping.

I'd bring the Canary, but that would be inhumane tratment.

Nice, Gill.

"Indoor Camping" was exactly the expression I once used to describe what I was doing having moved to a flat which I had no furniture to put into.

My original language is german and I was speaking german then. I did NOT translate "Indoor Camping" into german!

Funny to see that english speaking people are inventing the same expression for their own language. Still more funny to see what I might have missed or "missed" when I practised "Indoor Camping".

LOL

Linda objects to me farting in the caravan, so I'll nip across to the sleeping rooms when I can't hold it back any longer! - Just to help you preserve the atmosphere in there - so to speak.

Mind you in wider context of the atmosphere, it'll probably knock a new hole in the ozone layer !

It's funny the way that the same subjects always seem to crop up on the "Cat" at the same time. For instance this seems rather appropriate.

So who's bringing the NEUTRADOL ?

That's a real contradictio in adjecto - either you are living in camp or under a roof. But it is practised as living in straitened circumstances (water from the well, hearth fired with wood, sleeping in bags or under blankets on the floor, on tables, on straw).
Nevertheless it can be done also luxuriously: It is said when a Shah of Persia visited Imperial Berlin, the guards and valets slept on the floor, they slaughtered rams in the Hotel rooms and roasted the mutton on the floors. When he left, the parole of the day was the name of the Bavarian town "Schweinfurt" = Pig is gone.

Ok... now the real meaning. "Indoor camping" is code for a night of passion. It is derived from the activity of raising a tent in the bedsheets with the penis.
