15 Mar 98 - 01:25 AM (#23822) Subject: Rocking Along In My Old Rocking Chair From: Charles Colyer When I was singing last week at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind a gentleman came up to me and asked if I knew this song. He called it "Rocking Alone In My Old Rocking Chair" but another gentleman said it was correctly called "Rocking Along In My Old Rocking Chair". I told him I didn't know it but that I knew of a place where someone would know this song. If you have the lyrics and/or know where there's a midi site where I can hear the music I would appreciate having both. Thanks. |
15 Mar 98 - 08:30 AM (#23829) Subject: RE: Rocking Along In My Old Rocking Chair From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au There is a song in the DT called Rocking Along in an Old Rocking Chair. Unfortunately only the lyrics are supplied, not the tune. Use the box (probably) on the upper right hand of the Mudcat window labeled "Search the DigiTrad Database" Type in [Rockin* Alon* in my] and click on search. Murray |
15 Mar 98 - 09:31 AM (#23836) Subject: Lyr Add: ROCKING ALONE IN AN OLD ROCKING CHAIR From: NEWFOUNDLANDER Good old song. Here's the lyrics. ROCKING ALONE IN AN OLD ROCKING CHAIR Sitting alone in an old rocking chair, I saw an old mother with silvery hair. She looked so neglected by those who should care, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. Her hands were all callused and wrinkled and old. A life of hard work was the story they told, And I thought of angels when I saw her there, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. Bless her old heart, do you think she complained? Though life had been bitter, she'd live it again, And carry the cross that was more than her share, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. It wouldn't take much to gladden her heart, Just some small remembrance on somebody's part. A letter would brighten her empty life there, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. I know some children in an orphan home, Who'd think they owned heaven if she were their own. They'd never be willing to let her sit there, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. I look at her and I think what a shame, The ones that forgot her she still loves the same, And I think of angels when I see her there, Rocking alone in an old rocking chair. |
15 Mar 98 - 09:39 PM (#23863) Subject: RE: Rocking Along In My Old Rocking Chair From: Dale Rose The only recording that is easily available that I know of is by Lulu Belle and Scotty (Wiseman) on Starday CD 351. It also includes such standards as Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain (no, Willie wasn't first), Molly Darlin', I'll Be All Smiles Tonight, and Sweet Evalena. Scotty is noted as the composer of Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, Remember Me, and of course, for his reworking of Bascom Lamar Lunsford's Mountain Dew. (Those are all available on Starday 206) As a side note, Lulu Belle, born Myrtle Cooper, served four years in the North Carolina General Assembly after retiring from music. |

15 Mar 98 - 10:07 PM (#23868) Subject: RE: Rocking Along In My Old Rocking Chair From: Dale Rose I knew that. Thanks for jogging my memory, don't know why I didn't think of it. That album even has notes, Starday almost never does. I see it was written by Bob Miller, who wrote so many good country/old time songs. Another good album. |
