I live in Scotland but I'm going to be in Dublin, 12, 13, 14 Feb, in a hotel about 2 miles north of the Liffey. I'm going to check out the 1916 Rebellion sites, looks like our paths won't cross though!

Hi Jez I come from Dublin, but live in Switzerland!! There are many sessions on in Dublin, where anyone who can play an instrument are welcome to join in. Just toddle down to Temple Bar, or out in Howth there is apparantly a great session each Friday night. When you are inDublin, go to a pub called the Quays and ask anyone where you should pop in. have a pint for me!!!!!! Brigid

Thanks for the advice, I won't be there on the 12th unfortunately, but it would have been good to meet up. I'll try the temple bar though.

Jez

If you are in Dublin Sunday afternoon take the DART (train) to Howth, two minutes walk to the Lighthouse bar and at about 4pm the session starts.

Jez, do not go to Temple Bar. Loud drunken noisy tourists who are fed loud and noisy music. Go to Hughes Pub in Chancery street on Sunday night for the best traditional session in Dublin.

Brigid, I wonder if those who recommend toddling down to Temple Bar and just joining in have ever tried it. Most of the musicians in Temple Bar's bars are hired in by management. These are not sessions, and joiners-in are not welcome. Deskjet's pointed to the one and only starting point, and if you can't manage Sunday, it's still worth trying any other night.
