Wedding Song (Stookey & Others)

I'm trying to locate a recording of Paul Stokey's "The Wedding Song" for my daughter's wedding in June. I have been unable to find it on any Peter Paul & Mary tape or CD currently available in record stores. Can someone tell me what album it was on and if it is still available?

thanks

Does it have to be Stookey's version.? My wife does music at weddings and she's got it in several variations on Tape and in Sheet Music. None of the taped versions are Paul's though. I'll see what we have when I get home tonight.

Hi, Kevin - Noel Paul Stookey's "Wedding Song" is on a CD from Sparrow, #SPD1418, called "Giving You the Rest of My Life." You can find it at cdnow.com and other online distributors by searching under "title" for "giving you the rest." Let me know if you have any trouble getting it, and I'll figure out another way for you. Sparrow also has a single of the song, but I don't know how to get it. It might be available at Christian music stores.

Stookey's "Wedding Song" was never recorded by PP & M (except perhaps on a PBS video). Paul recorded it on his first album "Paul And"

I have it on a single on Warner Brothers - WB 7147 - with a song called "Sebastian" on the flip side. Don't know if it would still be available or not....maybe an oldies store?

"Come write me down" in DT is also known as "The Wedding Song". Take your computer to the wedding; you sing while it plays.

Just got an e-mail from Stookey's assistant. He says the "Giving You the Rest of My Life" CD is the only recording that is currently available, but I swear I saw a Sparrow single CD of the song. By the way, the other songs on the CD are truly awful. I suppose the quality of the Stookey recording is open to discussion, but I confess that I like it. The CD is available at CDnow.com and Musicblvd.com.

Thank you all,

I was able to find a copy of the PBS video (Peter Paul and Mary 25th Anniversary Concert).

I could use help finding one more song for my daughter's wedding.

I remember Tom Rush doing a version of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" in the sixties or seventies. I have most of Tom's albums and I thought I had the song but I can't find it. Does anyone know what album (if any) it was on?

Thanks again,

Kevin

I played some pretty prelude music at the wedding of my neice on the piano a few years ago. Lot's of arpeggios, modulating to different keys (minor and major) and a slowly flowing melody. No one in the audience seemed to recognize I was playing "The Crawdad Song" ("You get a line - I'll get a pole, honey")... But back to Paul Stookey's beautiful song - I'll bet there's a lot of us who can recall weddings where the soloist had a pretty tough time with the rhythm of that song (the loooooong notes) and the accompanist was sweating buckets trying to make it sound good.

My "ex" and I did it for our wedding - he played it, I sang it...but we "cheated" and pre-recorded it. It was played just before the processional. I knew I wouldn't be able to sing at my own wedding!

Kevin, Tom Rush recorded "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" on his Prestige album "Got a Mind to Ramble" (later re-released as "Mind Ramblin".) Fantasy has a CD with most of his Prestige material but unfortunately they left off "Just A Closer Walk With Thee".

I am getting married this fall and want to find a song that my 3 sisters could sing together. They harmonize really well, so a capella isn't really a problem. I just can't come up with anything.

HELP!

Erin, I'm quite fond of "My Only Love", which was a country music chart hit for the Statler Brothers about 15 years ago. As you may know, they did some fine harmonies. I suggest find and listen to it, see if it appeals to you.

And I wish you a lifetime of happiness. If you can live through the next six months, you're halfway there! (BG)

Dawn--

I actually did sing at my own wedding! My brother played guitar for me, and I sang "Stand By Me" as Beth walked down the aisle.

On the album Planet Waves Bob Dylan sings a song he wrote called "Wedding Song" , makes the Paul one look pretty awful. Try that one...it is beautiful.

One of the best wedding songs is "COME WRITE ME DOWN", as performed by Shirley Collins on Anthems in Eden...which you can find in the DT here anchor text
