Lyr/Chords Req: Middle Aged Blues Boogie

Can anyone help me with the chords for this song? From Saffire-the uppity blues women. Recorded in 1987, on their Middle aged blues cd, then later on their Saffire cd. Would also like to find more of their lyrics and chords for other songs. Any ideas besides buying the music book?

Found lyrics but no chords, sorry.

Get the book from the library?

Thanks for the lyrics and site. I'll try the library I've searched all over the web with no luck. Are you the same person that gave me info on that article about discrimination from the boston globe? If so, I sure would like to know where you found that. Thanks Rustic

Rustic,

Don't know if this is any help, but here's a site with a lot of Gaye Adegbalola's stuff.

If it's not there, do a GOOGLE search for "adegbalola" and you'll get lots more hits.

cheers,

david

MIDDLE AGED BLUES BOOGIE
Written by Gaye Adegbalola
As sung by Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women on "Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women" (1990)

1. Well, I was lookin' 'round an' checkin' out my very best friends.
Seems that they'd all taken up with young, young men.
Seems that when you reach around middle age,
You don't want a final chapter; you want to write another page.
I need a young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

2. Well, seems like men my age are all married, borin', or tired.
You gotta find a young man if you want to feel desired.
Now some o' my friends is worried 'bout what people may say.
I say, age ain't nothin' but a number; the good Lord made it that way.
I need a young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

You know that—

3. He can get it up, I tell you; he can get on down.
He'll help you do the dishes, take you out on the town.
He'll let you navigate 'cause he ain't worried 'bout seniority.
You can tell him where to put it; keepin' you happy is his priority.
I need a young, young man.
Yeah, I need a young, young man.
Oh-oh, I need a young, young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

4. Well, I'll forget about my arthritis, by backache, my lumbago.
That young man makes me boogie at the horizontal disco.
I'm cleanin' out my closet; I'm no longer sentimental.
Forget about experience; I'd rather have potential,
A young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

5. Well, I don't need no reefer, don't need no cocaine.
All I need is a young man to drive me insane.
I'm throwin' away my dustmop; got a brand-new vacuum cleaner.
I'm no longer taken for granted; my young man sucks it up sweeter,*
A young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

I said an—

6. Old woman don't yell; an old women don't tell.
An old woman don't swell an' she's grateful as hell.
I need a young, young man.
Yeah, I need a young, young man.
Uh-huh, I need a young, young man to drive away my middle-age blues.

Tell 'em 'bout it, Miss Ann—

[Piano solo]

Take it, Miss Earl—

[String bass solo]

REPEAT 4, 5, 6

Easy now—

7. I say, age ain't nothin' but a number.
You know that age ain't nothin' but a number, y'all.
I say that age ain't nothin' but a number.
You know that age ain't nothin' but a number,
And like a rare wine, you don't get older; you just get better.
Give me a young, young man.

* I found an online copy of the lyric where this phrase was "...but my young man's sexy but sweeter." Now, I don't know whether that's a mondegreen or an expurgation, but I stand by my transcription above. Anyway, it suggests how you might change the line if you consider the original too explicit.
