REQ: Good I IV V songs

My fifth graders are about to learn the wonderful world of chord progressions, or at least the bass clef and chord roots; I'm starting them off with the good old round "Music Alone Shall Live" and am wondering what other good songs have a steady consistent I IV V I pattern (other than "Sha-boom sha-boom" and others of that ilk!)

"The Wabash Cannonball" -- traditional

"Oklahma Hills" -- Jack Guthrie & Woody Guthrie

"Roll On Buddy" -- traditional

Howdy from across town.

I just finished a unit on tenor guitars with my fourth graders and we played The Baby Tree, All God's Critters and Twist and Shout. The last one is the onlyt tune that uses I IV V in that order, and it also has the neat dominant seven chord built one voice at a time--something that I pointed out to my students.

We should get together soon.

Peace,

Lucius

The three songs I suggested all use a I-IV-V-I chord progression in that order. If it's OK to keep those three chords but vary the order, I can offer a thousand songs, maybe more.

Also you can check out about 75% of country music, and about 95% of folk music, no Jazz, 25% of rock, no Pop, maybe some swing, but not much, so ther is a lot of material to chose from. Have fun. cheers.

Interesting choices. And some great songs. Thanks!
Wabash Cannonball" just might do it for this week.
"This land..."- duh, Allison- I just did a unit on Woody G- this would be a good review.
Lucius, you rascal you, what on earth is the Baby Tree??
