16 Feb 02 - 07:15 AM (#651438) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: line 'water thats the hard stuff' From: E.T. still working but here's more: (but I want to go listen to Sheepshearing, now!) Water is the strong stuff, it carries whales and ships But water is the wrong stuff, don't let it get past your lips. It wets your boots and rots your suits, puts aches in all your bones, Dilute the stuff with whiskey Or leave it well alone! Still looking for that title....Elaine |

16 Feb 02 - 11:36 AM (#651506) Subject: Lyr Add: RAB'S LAST WOOLLEN TESTAMENT (Williamson) From: Sorcha Ah, it was the "hard/strong" that was giving me fits. Is this it? RAB'S LAST WOOLLEN TESTAMENT By Robin Williamson When I was a little boy, I used to take the time To go and see old Rab McPhee down by the railway line. He was getting on in years then you know, And very fond of a drop of mountain whisky, and didn't he tell me so! He was always full of a good story, and he'd a nose like a weathervane. He was never exactly drunk, but then he was never exactly sober anyway, And I often remember these words he used to say: Water is the strong stuff; it carries whales and ships, But water is the wrong stuff; don't let it get past your lips. It rots your boots; it wets your suits, puts aches in all your bones. Dilute the stuff with whiskey, aye, or leave it well alone. CHORUS: Whisky pure, O whisky, you're A charmer, Drunk or sober. Spare yourself contortions with a drop of barley wine, A sensible precaution to counteract the times. Brandy and rum are dandy for some, wherever they might be sold, But a drop of mountain whisky isn't it worth its weight in gold? Whisky, Nancy Whisky, you're as sweet as the dew. I'm lonesome, my darling, since parting with you. Kiss me when you're with me, be easy and free, And I'll throw away the bottle and take you with me. (If it's the correct one let me know and I'll send an e mail.....or someone else can.....) |

16 Feb 02 - 06:38 PM (#651766) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: line 'water thats the hard stuff' From: GUEST Oh you guys are great ! Thanks to Sorcha for the Email. If I could only find a recording of it I have been trying to get a couple of local Irish bands here in S WI. to squeeze out a recollection of it . I had a recording of this on CD it was lively!! but a woman I lived with had a son who liked to finger through my stuff and OH well, he got my 60 band collection of Louie Louie too. Makes me sad cause soon after a brewery opened near me called Lake louie, Could have used it for the grand first bung opening. I may very well have had the lyrics messed up. I belong to the Madison Hombrewers and Tasters Guild LTD. and am a likely few grey cells over the line by this fifteenth year of membership. I would love to get a recording or two, any Ideas?? Thanks, Tom Griffin Inventom@yahoo.com |
