BS: NPR- Aryan Nations from ID to rural PA

Many of you may know I have worked with a human rights group in Wyoming and an umbrella org. out of Washington state, for the past eight years, primarily working to educate people about diversity and tolerance, but also about specific hate groups including the Aryan Nations and other of its ilk. It was the AN which wanted to make the Northwest their "homeland."

In a landmark case, last year, they lost all rights to a major compound in Idaho. It essentially put them out of business, or so we all hoped. Now, having just listened to a report on NPR's All Things Considered I find they are pn their way to establishing themselves as a major force in rural Pennsylvania's Potter County. Their claim is the county is already 98% white and their leader went on the radio saying they will kill Jews, and other minorities if they try to live there.

The story will be available online after 10p tonight, Mudcat time, I believe. I have posted this because I feel it as of major importance. When we have the rhetoric of the government about the "homeland" and terrorists, I hope they are convinced that these organisations can be more of a threat and are of as much importance, for investigation and disarmament, as those on foreign soil.

They are not joking when they speak proudly about their hatred and the race war they believe our country will experience. They are not joking when they speak of the delight they will take in killing someone who does not fit their mold. They are not joking when they brag about being armed and having their food stored, ready for a seige. They are not joking when they say they are teaching their children the same hatred which says Jews are children of Satan and African-Americans are "mudpeople;" it is a chilling thing to hear one of their 5 year olds tell how much she hates Jews. Of course, she doesn't understand, but she will.

Please listen, if you've the stomach for it, and if you are able, do what you can, in your community, now more than ever, to promote diversity and respect for one another's cultures, colour, race, religion, etc. Our government is not leading the way in this respect. It is up to us.

Thank you,

kat

Yes, I hate those sub-human, inbred, white-supremacist animals. I say kill `em all!

Some of the PA folk who live there now are eager to have them, BECAUSE, they say they (the white supremacists) will not be welcome there and better to have them turned away by a community firmly than have them seek shelter in a more welcoming location.

Idaho is lousy with these sorts, unfortunately; probably because the population density is so low... my bet is they'll end up back there.

That's one county west of us and we know this area well. There is a training camp already there for all kinds of mischief, and we have a profusion of natural gas lines running above ground thru our valleys. Lot of empty land out there, hard to find people in it.

I really think the total number of these folks is lower than the IQ of a bullfrog. Probably not much to worry about.

Idaho has no love for these sorts....but folks flcok there...not just because of the population density...but also because folks tend to their own affairs up there....which in cases like this is kind of sad though.....

Most of Idaho is very glad to see these idiots gone. Even though Richard Butler still lives in Hayden, the rest are gone and he is broken and without power here. They tried to set up a compound in western Montana but that didn't last too long. They need to be driven out of wherever they end up and kept on the move.

Peg,Idaho is not lousy with this type. The few who were and are still here just make such a big stink that it seems like a lot.

Our biggest problem now is all the damn Republicans who have taken over the state.

RR; I am glad to hear your large and lovely state is starting to see these idiots go away...

re: people tending to their own business, Vermont is similar and you do get some pockets of stupidity there, amongst all the liberals...this was particularly visible when the civil union laws were being debated; a whole lot of ugly homophobia found its way into the strangest places; county fairs, for exmaple. I think ANY state or area is vulnerable to this. Sad.

I remember a study done a few years back which found that the highest number of members of the KKK per capita was not in Arkansas, or Tennessee, or Texas, but....wait for it...CONNECTICUT!

I am travelling to western NY later today and missed my bus which goes through western Mass. and will be going by way of NYC and then through rural Pennsylvania...wish me luck!

Even if the total number of these maniacs is "lower than the IQ of a bullfrog" it's way too many. And it is something to worry about. It doesn't take large numbers to do a great deal of damage when they are heavily armed, organized and crazy. And they are actively recruiting. When times are hard impressionable young people can fall for this thing. What can we do to stop these jerks?

If they actually initiate violence, take appropriate action in the criminal and/or civil courts. If they just blather, live with it. Freedom of expression that is limited to nice people isn't freedom of expression at all. It used to be just the conservatives that didn't understand that point. Now the liberals don't either. Those of us in the radical middle are the only ones left who give a damn about freedom in this country.

Peter.

If they would stick together in one spot, it at least would help to keep an eye on them. I worry about the people I talk to every day who bitch about taxes, gun laws, our corrupt government etc. I also worry about the destruction of family farms in America, a phenomenon that leads to bankruptcy, bitterness, desparation, and recruitment to orgs like Aryan Nations, the Order, "Patriots", and Posse Comitatus. These groups are strongest in the "American breadbasket" from Utah and Idaho through Iowa, Nebraska and the rest of the Midwest. By nature, they are generally not well organized, but consist of localized cells that operate independently.

We make a mistake to classify these people as stupid ignorant or insane. There are understandable root causes for much of this, and the more we understand, the better off we will be. For a better grasp of the farm crisis/neo-nazi connection read Harvest of Fear.
