Help please! Every time I log into the cat I am having to reset my cookie. This has only happened since I got the odd e-mails from Kevin and Katlaughing. I have scanned and constantly updayed my AV prog(Norton) Any ideas?

Ummm... depending on your browser settings, your 'cookie' file may have reached it's "Max Size"? and so can't accept any new ones?? Or perhaps your browser settings have been changed to not accept cookies?

Just guesses...

Good luck eh!

I've been having that problem on and off ever since Max had to move the servers in to his home. It seems sporadic - I'd have thought if it was my browser settings it'd happen all the time. Anyway I've just now had a look at the settings on Internet Explorer under Internet Options/Privacy and told it to always allow mudcatorg, and I'll see if that makes any difference.

Not that it's much of a nuisance, only takes a few seconds. I suppose it might tempt people sometimes to come in a a GUEST instead and mess around, if that is what they are into.

No, it didn't work. I just rebooted the computer and came on in, and the same problem came up. I suspect, without understanding these things, that one of the servers used insists on cookies being refreshed. (Well fresh cookies sound more appetising.)

It's definitely nothing to do with that virus. And since I've just completely reinstalled Windows it can't be because I've got too many cookies in my PC's larder.

Anyway, I'm glad it's not just me.

McG... what server are you using?

I only ask, because after the physical move, I only had to do this once I think...

Mudcat is rolling slicker'n'snot from this end...

;-)

Any and all. (ie I come in on the generic link, www.mudcat.org, and when that freezes up I click on the links I keep on my home page to the others (loki, ragtime and shorty), and use whichever opens up first.

I suspect that when it's ragtime this problem doesn't occur.

Seems to me, for what it's worth, that I use Ragtime more than the others....

Kevin, again for wot it's worth, "Ragtime" seems to be the best server.

Leastwise here in South Wales it is.

It's done it again! I only have about 8 cookies, so there is plenty of room. I will re-look at my settings. Everything seems very slow on my computer at the moment.

Over Christmas I lost the Mudcat altogether. I got so desperate I started sending out random E-mails trying to find it. None of my links worked. I typed in mudcat.org and deltablues.com and I kept getting a page that said the it couldn't be found. I pictured mudcat folks all over the world trying desperately to find the forum and getting the same message.

Then somehow and inexplicably, it came back. I looked at the threads and it had been there all along for everybody else.

I still don't know what happened.

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so, go to Internet Options (in the Tools group) and click on Advanced. Scroll down to Security and make sure the choice "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" is unchecked. If it's been checked, your Mudcat cookie is being thrown out every time you close your browser. If you uncheck it and find it's been checked again when you run your virus checker, you may want to look at the settings for the virus checker.

A new idea: you could try asking in the Help Forum. There's a link in the banner at the top of the page that says "Help." When you click it, you get the main page, and it says "If you're having trouble with your membership, please see Joe's advice in the FAQ." If you've already tried all the suggestions, or if the FAQ times out your computer like it does mine, you could post a thread asking for advice.

Leprechaun, early on, I bookmarked the Help Forum. When the main servers are down, the one with the Help Forum is still often up.

You could try Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Restore Defaults, and then Apply, or OK if Apply doesn't light up.Also while you're in there check the security level, which is usually best set at medium. Sometimes if you re-boot or re-start from a frozen screen, or even if you instal something new, your security level can change to custom. I've had it do that a couple of times myself. Good luck.....Giok
