Energized (a rare event)by LyrAddCorrection Coaltown Road (great Cape Breton song), I searched DT&Forum for the following & no result. Maybe goofed but don't think so. Maybe absent with plenty of leave; but *I* like it even if it's a bit sappy & not indigenous to The Island. Come t't'ink of it maybe that's WHY I like it: the description fits *me*, too. :) So (my veryfirst Threadstart, I'm all a-twit)(woops, hearing many seconds to that motion)--

CAPE BRETON OF THE WELCOMES

When I was just a young man, my father said to me
You can roam the wide world over when you are young and free
But wherever you may wander, wherever you may roam
Cape Breton of the welcomes will always call you home

Chorus:
From Cape North down to the Canso Straights, I've wandered all the way
I've seen the sparkling waters flow into Sydney Bay
From Inverness to Louisburg, your earth, your sea, your sky
Cape Breton of the welcomes, I'll love you 'til I die

Well, I roamed the wide world over to see what I could find
Cape Breton of the welcomes was always on my mind
I thought about the friends I left behind in old Glencoe
Port Hood, Mabou and Margaree and how I missed them so

Chorus

I'll raise a toast to all my friends within your rocky shore
Whatever treasures they may have, I wish them ten times more
I'll sing your praise, my island, from sea to shining sea
Cape Breton of the welcomes you're all the world to me

Chorus

- Words and music by Tommy Makem

Don't worry, Pooka.

We knew what you meant. I would like to hear the song. If Tommy comes back, I'll have to ask him to sing it.

I wonder if Kevin or Brian know the song (that's Evans and Doherty). HAve to ask them.

George Seto - Thanks. I sit reassured.

Re will he no come back again, makem.com shows schedule, as such, for The Makem Brothers now ("...But my sons have sons, as brave as were their fathers..."); appearances with the oul' feller are asterisked. Not too many. Presently none north of Vermont, more's the pity. But there's one with the whole famn damily, in Milford CT down my neckadawoods, in late March. Late fer Mass again! If I go I could pass on to Dr. Makem (he is that now, yknow; U. of Limerick, Doctorate of Letters) yer message to movealong getalong back on up there & sing it f'Chrissakes. 'Cept unlike yerself I doan KNOW 'im! Only been faithfully following his shoals of herring (nowait that's the other guy, well they're both U. LimerickRake Drs. annyway so what difference?) these 35 years gone. Ah weel. / I've searched the makemsite for what the Hell *recording* it's on & bedam if they will tell ye. So whatever ye say say nothin'....Now I face the far more daunting task of excavating my unpixellated physical rubble, here. An archeological dig. But I have it, by God. SOMEwhere. Will try to get back to you. Up the Island!
