Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and a jazz funeral will be going on that day! That's the way I wanna go.... Anyways, have fun and enjoy! Not only music, but see if you can get to some of the sights also.... Above ground cemeterys, Louis B. Armstrong Park, Bourbon street of course.... just a thought, perhaps Preservation Hall does stuff during the day.... Its in the Quarter semi-near the docks if I remember correctly(i might not) they have their own jazz band, and will play outside in a quartet feel when the weather's nice. Steve |

If I get to the Old Absinthe Bar & find Blake I'll ask what's happened to his music. Yeah, Steve, I will let everyone know if I happen upon a jazz funeral. I would love to hear street performers. I know there's much to see & do aside from music. The "tourist" experiences, such as meanering through the bayou on a swamp boat sounds intriguing. Has anyone taken a paddlewheeler along the Mississippi? Nice if it had a sea music background along with the history. All suggestions appreciated. |

He plays at some Irish bar in New Orleans, the city he mostly resides in. He's been playing here in St. Augustine for several years. Incredible songs. |

Watch out for hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's.(a drink not a storm) I think Al Hirt has/had a club of his own name but I never went. Most of the riverboats are modern diesels with decorative paddlewheels. There is at least one sternwheeler that is actually driven by its wheel, once I was there for an anniversary and it was booked by a corp. for a private party! So we walked on to a free ferry , went across river & back, and had a great view of sunset. If you drive the stretch of I-10 between superdome and french quarter you will pass above some cemeteries that were location for a scene from Easy Rider; the monotonous pile-driver in background of scene was placing the columns for the freeway. A cheap streetcar ride the entire length of St.Charles Ave. gives a pleasant view of some grand homes. When the cars reach the end of the line they don't turn around; all the seat backs flip position via a pivot at floor level so the seats then face the other way!(An ingenious mechanical thing for gearheads to appreciate.) Not sure if the "solo" room is still there....but a good trick is to get to know your waiter-person. Ask them to suggest (or take you to) to the "live" spots where THEY go after hours. To take advantage of Rick's good suggestion, he would have to spend a night there at least. "Ask around" in the major watering holes as well. |

The streetcar on Charles sounds totally fun & maybe I will find the free ferry, technission. Perhaps Rue Boubon will be happening during the day as well. Will take note of other suggestions for longer stay in the future. No matter what happens, I'm sure the good times will roll on. Mudcatters are the best!
