And the friends I know have grown and moved away
G# C#
But the love I felt for you still remains

I walked down past the buildings, stand empty and unused
G#
Where you asked me one more time if I'd stay
C#
And then you cried when I refused

Oh that was long ago
F#
I moved away and I changed my name
G# C#
But the love I felt for you still remains
G# F#
It remains it blows down the dusty streets
G#
And rise above the rain
C#
And rooms locked the time away
F# F#/E D#m
Out on the open plains
G# C#
Yes the love I felt for you still remains

C# F#
All I can say is I always thought you'd be there when I came

Goddam, Spaw, you're fast. But that still leaves the "Two Way Waltz". I can't remember it myself, but I know that WyoWoman does. She sings a great version of it and in spite of her insistence that she can't play guitar, does a good job.

I think a PM to her from us both is in order, but then, I'm a big Kate Wolf fan. BlueJay

Thanks folks!!

I was wondering if there is another version of Love Still Remains? I seem to recall a lyric about the "tumbleweeds"...or am I crazy..? (not mutually exclusive, however)

"And rooms locked the time away", it sounds more like she's singing "and grows (a rose?)like tumbleweed", on the studio version. Still have to check the live version.

I've checked Kate's original version and the live (Austin) version. Plus that terrible cover version by EmmyLou.

And indeed the lyrics are different from what is given in the first post. In the chorus indeed there are 'tumbleweeds', also in the version of EmmyLou Harris.
Though the chorus is repeated a few times, hearing the 3 version I could not make out all the words. The best I could guess is that it goes something like:

It remains - blows down the dusty streets
And rides(?) the falling rain
And (g?)rows like a tumbleweed
Out on the open range(?)
The love I felt for you still remains

But I really do need help of any american or englishman who can make sense out of what is being sung. Is it range or plain etc, I can't make it out and Kate's poetry doesn't really make sense to me.

The verses inbetween are better to understand for me, they go like:

I went home to a place I swore I'd never see again
Lord it's different now there's hardly anything that hasn't changed
And the friends I've known have grown and moved away
But the love I felt for you still remains

I walked down past the building, standing empty and unused
Where you asked me one more time if I'd stay
And then you cried when I refused
But that was long ago, I moved away and I changed my name
But the love I felt for you still remains

I could say that I always thought you'd be there when I came
But you wanted more and I could say the same
Now I'm leaving like a whistle on a lonesome boxcar train
But the love I felt for you still remains

Note that there are a lot of differences with the lyrics earlier given in this thread. In some lines EmmyLou sings another line than Kate. I've written down Kate's words. Emmy Lou sings like a boxcar instead of whistle etc. But I'd like to forget her lamentable version, Harris version never should have been recorded...

To me, in 95 out of 100 I prefer the original version by the writer, better than any cover. And this is no exception.
As for this song, Kate's warm voice, to me, sounds so much better than the a bit overdone, sentimental way EmmyLou sings it...

But anyway, tastes vary.
And spaw, can you help me make sense out of the words of the chorus?

Based on this one, let's see........"Rides" could be correct, but I would find "grows" less preferable to "rolls"......Then, from a purely rhyming aspect, "plain" works better than "range" although the words are kinda' synonymous.

The first line indicates movement.....As in.."It (our love) still remains no matter what----blowing down a dusty street, riding on the rain drops, or rolling like a tumbleweed across the plain (or range)...Our love still remains the same."

I dunno'.......Works somewhat for me. Make any sense?

I thought Emmylou sang "And rolls like a tumbleweed out on the open plain". It took me a couple times hearing her version, but I think she does a great job of it. I like the song more each time I hear it.

It's just a beautiful song with a lot of truth in it. So who likes to play it in C and who likes C#? Not too much of a difference but noticeable.

Hey Saddle Pals, Here I am, with the Kate Wolf songbook right in front of me and *I* certainly didn't die of leukemia, Mr. Spaw.

The version I have, which is from the song book her son put out, is:

It remains,
It blows down the dusty streets
And rides the falling rain
And rolls like a tumbleweed
out on the open range.
The love I felt for you
still remains.

I got the songbook from:
Owl Productions
P.O. Box 151208
San Rafael, CA 94915-1208

I got it a year and a half ago, so I'm assuming the address will still be good.

Thanks, BlueJay, for the props on my guitar-playing. I'm still underwhelmed with myself, but progressing steadily, even if it's millimeter by millimeter. ...

Subject: Lyr Add: TWO-WAY WALTZ (Kate Wolf)
From: Jim Dixon

Here is "Two-Way Waltz" reformatted to make it (I hope) easier to follow:

TWO-WAY WALTZ (Kate Wolf)

           A E
You're a quick-silver lady, a child of the morning
D E A
A flower by day a slow fire by night
E
But he's taught you things for all that you've shown him
D E A
He's a gazer of stars, a blue crystal light,
D E A
And sometimes he cries and he says things
F#m D
That pierce you to your soul
A E C# D
But he's still a man who loves you
A E A
And it hurts to let you go.

You're a man with the power of rattlesnake lightning,
Hard like the mountains but soft like the sun.
And she's taught you things for all that you've shown her
She's a weaver of visions in threads finely spun.
And sometimes she cries and she walks away
Held by the dreams that find her
But she's still a woman who loves you
And her heart will always remind her.

So dance for the day but watch for the signs
That point out your way when the doubt fills your eyes
And try to believe that the sweetest hello
Always comes after the hardest goodbye.
For two ways can sometimes make one
That's stronger than either alone
So dancers join hands for the two-way waltz
But take the steps on your own.
