24 Mar 98 - 02:49 AM (#24466) Subject: RE: LYR CHECK: Night Ferry missing one line... From: steve t I've figured out some chords and a brand new (to me) picking pattern that I like fine, but hey, yes, I'm very interested to know the the "ABC" chords. I *must* do a search do find out exactly what ABC chords are... And I have to admit, the crazy thing I thought the Furey's might be singing was: But it didn't bother me, oh, but her hair... (which just seems so nicely sentimetal that I *think* it, even if I don't sing it). Thanks, BAZ! |
25 Mar 98 - 05:51 PM (#24578) Subject: Tune Add: NIGHT FERRY (Fureys and Davey Arthur) From: BAZ I typed this in from the Furey's songbook. It sounds a bit strange played on a piano sound but try it out with ABCMusic if you have a copy and switch the instruments to Accordian and it works quite well.
I'm going to name drop here which is not normally my style but last summer Finbar Furey came to our village to see a friend, heard us playing and invited us to bring our instruments along to the local golf club and jam with him. I tell you he is an extremely talented and one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I was learning to play the low D whistle at the time and just about to throw it away in frustration, after 10 mins tuition I felt like I'd been playing it all my life. Finbar had just had a low A whistle made and even he was struggling, It was just like trying to play the tubes on a vacuum cleaner!

27 Mar 98 - 04:35 AM (#24721) Subject: RE: LYR CHECK: Night Ferry missing one line... From: Wolfgang Hell now here's the wanted line from Jake Walton, "Keltische Folksongs", (this book doesn't seem to have an English language original, though all the lyrics are in English): "but it didn't bother me, oh it hurt them" I think it should be added that the original version of this song was written by Wizz Jones for his wife Sandy and has quite different lyrics. Finbar Furey has taken Jones' song (with credit, to the best of my knowledge) and has adapted the lyrics to such an extent that you may say it's a new song sharing only tune, structure and chorus. I'll post the origibal lyrics later Wolfgang |
27 Mar 98 - 05:50 AM (#24724) Subject: Lyr Add: NIGHT FERRY (Wizz Jones) From: Wolfgang here's Wizz Jones' original version:
Night Ferry
O the night ferry
Laughing truck drivers
But I was just dreaming
But in the cold grey light of morning
O the night ferry

Amazing how helpful the group is. :-) Now I'm going to do a search for ABC music... Also thanks for the name dropping. I hadn't realized that Furey was a surname. Kinda neat to think of a family called the Fureys. |
