A LETTER I NEVER DID MAIL
Artist: Unknown

Alone by my window I'm dreaming
Of the sweet day I called you my own
When each day brought it's blessing from Heaven
And the nights were the sweetest I'd known

For you dear I'd beg, steal or borrow
My undying love will not fail
In my hand there's a symbol of sorrow
It's a letter I never did mail.

Like some heavenly breeze you'd caress me
As you did neath the stars on that night
When you offered your hand Heaven blessed me
And my sad heart was filled with delight

For me there's no hope for tomorrow
I'm just like a ship without a sail
In my hand there's a symbol of sorrow
It's a letter I never did mail.

It seems that the fates are against me
For even in love I have failed
In my hand there's a symbol of sorrow
It's a letter I never did mail

may have been another verse?

Hi, Mart - I did a search for "letter I never" at www.bmi.com - I came up wiht six songs with related titles. I'll betcha it was either the one by Ralph Stanley/Candace Randolph, or the one by Bill Boyd/Leon Payne. The one I'm vaguely familiar with is the Raplh Stanley recording. Maybe if you click here, you'll get the same results I got - that doesn't always work any more.
