06 Jan 97 - 12:29 PM (#1144) Subject: Girl Scout witchcraft lyrics From: My mother is looking for the lyrics of a song she sang in the Girl Scouts. (That would be in the 40s.) It began, "If there were witchcraft, I'd make three wishes..." She doesn't know the official title, but it's probably some words from that line. Anyway, she'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could post complete lyrics and any information on the composer. And are Girl Scouts still singing it? |
06 Jan 97 - 05:15 PM (#1156) Subject: RE: Girl Scout witchcraft lyrics From: Susan of DT We were still singing it in late 50s to early 60s. I will look for it/think on it for more words. One wish was for a winding road beckoning me to roam. |

If there were witchcraft I'd make two wishes,

The song was Obviously geared for the sensitivities of a young girlies mind... I dunno about that, Dipso... the popularity of the Harry Potter books shows that girls (as well as boys) have their own affinity to witchcraft... Makes me think that this song was more geared to the sensibility of little girlies' parents and teachers who expect them to grow up and tow the line, and not upset the applecart... From Meleni: Phooey! I was hoping it was a new merit badge! Yeah, I was too... or at least a song to sing around the campfire about learning to be witches... |

"Once a giant came a-wandering, late at night when the world was still; seeking for a stoop to sit on he climbed a little green hill. Giant, giant I am under you, move or this is the end of me; but the giant answered, thank you, I like it here don't you see. That's all I remember...my brother used to sing it. 22 Dec 17 - 12:24 PM (#3895285) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Girl Scout witchcraft song From: GUEST,Wendy Soderlund I attended a Camp Fire Girl camp--Camp Kitanawa--in 1958 & 1959 located near Battle Creek, Michigan. Our version, as my friend and I remember it, went like this: If there were witchcraft I'd make two wishes A winding trail that beckons me to roam And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire To welcome me when I'm returning home. Memories which linger, constant and true My fondest memories are of Kitanawa and you. This song brings back so many wonderful memories! |

But in this real world, there is no witchcraft And golden wishes do not grow on trees Our fondest daydreams must be the magic To bring us back those golden memories. |
02 Oct 19 - 07:47 PM (#4011652) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Girl Scout witchcraft song From: GUEST,Starship Just found the following at http://www.camplightfoot.org/songs/generalsongs.htm WITCHCRAFT If there were witchcraft, I'd make two wishes A winding road that beckons me to roam. And then I'd wish for a blazing campfire To welcome me when I'm returning home. But in this real world, there is no witchcraft And golden wishes never grow on trees. Our fondest daydreams must be the magic To bring us back happy memories Mem'ries that linger, constant and true Mem'ries we cherish, campers friends, of you. I need no witchcraft To tread the old trail 'Neath whisp'ring trees to where a camp fire burns; No magic crystal to bring before me. Dear campers scenes on pages time has turned. For oft in firelight my mem'ry traces The forms of campers' friends who gathered there; I see them stand with uplifted faces And hear again the Indian tribal prayer. Mem'ries that linger, constant and true Mem'ries we cherish, campers' friends, of you. |
