We play what might generally be termed Americana -- it's a countryrocktexmexcajunboogie sorta thing, so we're not exactly coining it, but we've got a new c.d. of our own songs and we'd like to give people an idea of what we sound like. Any personal experiences would be most helpful. |

26 Feb 02 - 10:58 PM (#658717) Subject: RE: Free webspace From: Tweed No Free webspace is "free". I've gone through two such websites in the past year and a half and they bannered and pop-adverted me and my visitors to death. They are mostly unreliable and tend to crap out on you about the time you've got your site sorted out. Go for the gusto and buy some space and leave the banners behind. I use a servor provider call OLM and they give you plenty of space with no adverts for about ten bucks a month. It's worth the money if you're serious about doing your own site. I'll tell you, I'd rather move my house than move all my files and rebuild again. Plenty of room for full length mp3's as well. Go for it. |

They are a lot smaller than mp3, but they don't seem to impose any limit on file size, and teyh total 50MB is enough for a few MP3 files anyway - and I'm not sure they actually pay too much notice to the limit.
And you'll see if you visit my website that banners aren't a problem (well they haven't been so far, touch wood) |

27 Feb 02 - 08:46 PM (#659573) Subject: RE: Free webspace From: McGrath of Harlow I've got a feeling that angelfire have a file size limitation now - but it's worth checking. As has been said, these things change - but my impression is that even when they tighten up or reduce things for new entrants, they don't bother to go round reducing services for the people who got in earlier.
One thing with lycos.tripod, whatever they like to be call led, they have servers in India and various other places as well as the UK, so I imagine you could probably get webspace on all of those, and link them up to have a pretty sizeable amount of webspace.
Maybe it's better to get paid space - but my impression is that the people selling this are just as likely to fold in the night as the freebies. |

27 Feb 02 - 08:56 PM (#659580) Subject: RE: Free webspace From: katlaughing A nice place to put yur mp3's for free and to share with whomever is www.iuma.com. It is esp. for that purpose and that purpose only. It may take them awhile to get you approved and available, but it seems worth it to me. I put my brother's classical stuff up there. It was recommended to me by another Mudcatter, hesperis. I found it easy to do, also. kat |

28 Feb 02 - 06:05 AM (#659738) Subject: RE: Free webspace From: Bullfrog Jones Nutty, I went to 150.com and found this on their FAQ page: Question: Can I have LEGAL MP3 Files In My Free Account Answer: No. We only allow MP3 files on our paid accounts. EXE and MP3 files are automatically deleted without question from FREE ACCOUNTS. Elsewhere they say that they will delete ra and wav files "if the service is being abused"(?) Kat, I've had a preliminary look at iuma.com and that may be the answer, maybe as a link from our current website rather than rebuilding the whole thing. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes. |
