Lyr Req: Somewhere Overweight People(Allan Sherman

The late great Steve Allen wrote a parody of Somewhere Over the Rainbow called Somewhere Overweight People. I would like to know where I can locate the lyrics to the parody for a barbershop quartet.

Thank you

Steve Allen, eh? Sounds like could've been Alan Sherman, too. I like it already. Gonna look.

Is this the one that's a Thanksgiving parody? Try a forum search for "Thanksgiving" and I think you'll find it in a thread that was active last November.

I just remembered, the song I saw was "Somewhere, overindulgence..." and it WAS a Thanksgiving song, but I can't find it in any of the recent Thanksgiving threads. You might try linking this thread to a new thread called "Lyr Req: Somewhere Overindulgence."

If I find it, I'll link it or post it.

riance, the one I mentioned is in the DT HERE. If Steve Allen's song is different, you might try starting (and linking to) a new thread with the parody title in it. I thought you were actually seeking the Harburg-Arlen song, from your thread title.

Google-gaggling, haven't found the lryics. Found references to the song here and there, e.g., Click here
re a Ladies Barbershop Quartet singing it, with this fragment printed,

Somewhere overweight people
Just like me
Should have someplace where folks don't count every calorie.

Later in the song, they sing:

If bluebirds ate as much as I
There'd be some big fat bluebirds in the sky.

(hee hee I love it...dimly remember hearing it m'self, I think)

If it's any help, there's a book "Steve Allen's Songs: 100 Lyrics with Commentary". For its Blurb on the official Steve Allen website, Click here

According to that article that Pooka linked to above, that ladies' barbershop quartet, called Fast Forward, is claiming "Somewhere Overweight People" as their original composition. It won them the title "Queens of Parody 2001." Now, is somebody working a scam here, or is this a different song, or …?

Here it is...........

SOMEWHERE OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE
Words, Allan Sherman; music, Harold Arlen, "Over the Rainbow" original lyrics by Yip Harburg, 1939)
As recorded by Allan Sherman on "My Son, The Box" (2005) and "Nutty But Nice" (2019)

Somewhere, overweight people,
Just like me,
Must have someplace where folks don't count every calorie.

Somewhere, over the rainbow,
Way up tall,
There's a land where they've never heard of cholesterol.

Where folks can eat just what they want
And still be slim and trim and gaunt,
You'll find me,
Where every little thing I taste
Won't wind up showing on my waist,
Or worse--behind me.

Somewhere, overindulging
Is divine.
If their waistlines aren't bulging,
Why then, oh why does mine?

If bluebirds weighed as much as I
You'd see some big fat bluebirds in the sky.

Many Thanks guys,

I've just perfected an open D instrumental version of Over The Rainbow, and these lyrics are just perfect for performance with it.

One round sans voice, building up expectation for a serious performance and then, boom, 2nd time round launch into this; he he.
Twill be grand it will ;-)
