seeking trad. tune Coleraine

I've searched high and low, hither and yon, and can't find a gif or abc. for Coleraine, a traditional Irish session tune (double jig). Can anyone help me in this area? I sure appreciate any effort of assistance!

I just bought a clawhammer banjo book which has this tune, unfortunately it's in banjo tablature so I don't know if it would help or not. I suppose with a little work I could turn it into ABC if no one else posts it first.

Here is a midi file of colerain. If you have Noteworthy composer you can view the music notation by opening the file with it. If you don't have noteworthy tou can get it at ZDnet shareware library. Dan

Rosebrook, If you don't have Noteworthy , I realy recomend it. Because you can use it to veiw the musical notation of any MIDI tune, making it a great way to hear play and learn new tunes. There are thousands of MIDI files on the net that you can download , save and view with noteworthy and it works a lot better than ABC. To save a midi that you have opened with your browser just place your cursor on the player window, click on the right mouse button and click on "save as." Sam Henry's "Songs of the People" has a "Kate of Colerain" which seems to be a variant of the tune in the midi file. It has a major rather than a minor sound, but follows much the same outline.

I lived in Coleraine for a while and was never aware that this tune existed.

I think the Frank is talking about is "Kitty of Coleraine.".... it does have major tune.

"As beautiful Kitty one morning was tripping,

with a pitcher of milk from the fair at Coleraine."

Thanks, especially Dan, for help. I don't have Noteworthy Composer, but am willing to download tools that will help in searching for and learning music! (It took forever to get up the confidence to download and play with ABC2win.) In the meantime, still looking for a gif or abc of Coleraine....

Just worked through to see if it worked... and it did... Now you can see a simple melody line. A few of the note values are a bit dubious, (probably due to rests.... Alan's working on it.)But it's pretty easy to follow.

Hi,

Coleraine is in Northern Ireland approx 70 miles north of Belfast. It is on the banks of the Bann(which runs more or less the length of Northern Ireland.) It is one of the main towns on (well near anyway... )the North coast. I lived about 5 miles outside it for a few years near some gorgeous beaches. A lovely part of the world.... and yes.... of course I'm biased. It is pronounced "coal-rain".
