Easter Monday Day of Folk Wigan UK

This Easter Monday, 1st April 2002, Wigan will hold its 4th Annual Day of Folk at the Seven Stars Hotel, Wallgate (by Wigan Pier). There are no guests booked, just an all-day and all-evening song session from 2pm till we get thrown out (late). Food is available at the pub, and children are welcome (at least in the afternoon) so you can make it a family day. There is a small car park at the back of the pub.

This is the venue for Wigan Folk Club's Thursday song sessions (we also meet on Tuesdays at the Fox & Goose, Wigan Lane); and as per our normal clubnights, there is an open music policy - the only thing we insist on is it must be acoustic (although a blind eye has been turned in the past to the odd unobtrusive amplified bass). Other than that, all are welcome.

Sounds like it will be a great sing, Joan. And its at the end of the Lancaster Maritime Festival too, so its just possible I might be able to make it for the evening.

This sounds interesting. Are didly didly sessions planed ? if so I'd come and play as I live in Eccles and ther's a good bus service. While I'm here, are there any regular tune sessions in the Wigan area? All the best PP

Alan, all being well I'll be at Lancaster too (but of course I'll be back in Wigan for our "do"), so I hope to see you there (and there as well?...)

Pied Piper, there's one session in the bar, it tends to be mainly songs but instrumentals are very welcome. It's run as a "singaround", so if you do a tune when it's your turn, you'll probably find the rest of us attempting to "diddle" along with you. As for what's happening in Wigan and surrounding area, Click here for the Trouble At 'Mill website, then click through to my "Folkal Point", which Graham Dixon kindly posts on his website for me. It's updated weekly (on Sundays) and is also available on free email subscription. If you want to be added to the mailing list, click here to email me.

Thanks, John, will look forward to seeing you again. I am getting an interested reponse, although not all of it via Mudcat. We intend having a fun day - we usually do!
