He sang a song called The Miner's Son or maybe it was the Miner's Child. After looking at his C/D releases it does not appear that he has recorded it. Maybe some other Maritimer has. JP writes a number of his own songs, so it could be his own composition as well. JP was born in the town of Bridgewater, and worked as a young musician. His parents are from the Cheticamp area of Cape Breton where he and his wife, Hilda, now live. For quite a number of years before he moved to Cape Breton, he lived and worked as a session musician in Nashville. JP plays (in no specific order), fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, and bass. Probably a few others which I don't recall. HE's a great musician, and plays many different styles. |

I've heard John Allan Cameron sing it a couple of times, but he said once that it had the best opening line of any song he knew, which (hopefully) means that he didn't write it. It's also been recorded by McGinty, which I believe to be a celtish pub cover band based in Halifax (probably George can confirm or deny this). Glace Bay is a town in Cape Breton which used to be a major mining centre and is now sort of the "wrong side of the tracks" in CB. It's the site of the Miner's Museum, where retired miners give tours of a retired mine, and the setting of the great film "Margaret's Museum". Marion |
