Subject: Lyr Add: LÁ FHEIL PÁDRAIG
From: GUEST,ciarili o'brien

Aoife was so kind as to send me the rest of a song to the same tune as Ainnir Dheas na gCiabhfholt Donn, the first verse of which appears in her self-titled album. It's certainly a St. Patrick's Day song, but I guess I'm a bit late....

LÁ FHEIL PÁDRAIG
collected by Aoife Ní Fhearraigh from Tory Isle singer Eamonn Mac Ruairí

Lá Fheil Pádraig chár ghnath liom bheith ag coiméad an chró,
Ach ag ól i dtoigh na tabhairne ó mhaidin go dtí an óich,
Na cartaí bheith ar clár againn, is na gloiní bheith lán,
Is gníomh náireach chá dtearn mé i mo mheisce go fóill.

Go mbreacfaidh do dhá mhalaidh 's go liathfhaidh do cheann,
Chomh geal leis an eala atá ar Shliabh Uí Fhloinn,
Go dté mo bhean i dtalamh agus ina dhiaidh sin a clann,
Chá bhíonn roinnt agam fhéin le h-ainnir dheas na gciabhfholt donn.

A Róise mhín mhodhmhar is áille ná an ghrian,
Ar mo thórramh go raibh tú má's áil leat é,
Mo chónair bheith a tógáil i lár a' lae,
Agus bí'n phóg sin Dé Domhnaigh a bhásaigh mé.

Tá Pádraigh a rá liom gur pheacaigh mé go trom,
Cáilín gallda bheith ar lámh liom gan choisreacadh san óich,
Stáid na grásta nó go bhfaidhaidh mé leis na peacaidh seo a chuir díom,
Gheobhaidh mé dídeán agus farús ins na flaithis ag na naoimh.

Deir Colmcille liom go hIfreann riamh na deachaidh fial,
Lucht an tsaibhris go gcaillean siad páirt mhór do Dhia,
Nach mór an tubaiste do dhuine ar bith dá dtearn ariamh é,
Oiread a chruinniú 's a choinneóchadh as Párrthas é.

Bhí mé lá a siúl na sráide 's ní bhfuailfí mé,
Ba lúthmhar eadtrom aigeantach an buachaill mé,
Ní amháin a mhearaigh mé 's nach bhfagham í go deo
Grá nach bhfuil sa láthair go bhfuarann sé.

Dá mba liomsa Cnoc Luimneach agus Tráigh a' Mhín Mhóir,
Éirinn go h-iomlán agus Baile Átha Cliath,
Ar mo bhunadh fhéin go bpronnfainn a bhfuil thoir agus thiar,
Ar chuntar bheith ar lámh leat lá agus bliain.

Ó guímse Rí an Domhnaigh agus rí mór na bhfeart,
Go mbéinn agus an té udaí ar luadh seal mé leí,
Ar thaobh mhalaidh sléibhe agus gan einneach ár gcóir,
Dá mbeadh naoi n-uaire déag ins an oích ar fad.

Buachaill stuama neamhghruama dár gineadh ins an áit,
Ag goil thar sáile teacht na Bealtaine 'sé gcluinim aige ach é,
Ach má fhágann sé an baile seo bheidh tart orainn 'na dhiaidh,
'S beidh mná gallta fá na h-ardáin ag cleitearnaigh na diaidh.

Song for Ireland is my favorite Irish song, with Kevin Barry a close second.

Don't know about nowadays but I remember when you could get lynched for singing Kevin Barry in certain pubs in the West of Scotland and knew a guy who was assaulted for singing Coronation Coronach (also known as Scottish Breakaway) because it used the tune of The Sash My Father Wore!

Then there was someone (perhaps Ewan McVicar or Jim McLean can help out here) who discovered that the words of Kevin Barry fitted ideally to the tune of "The Sash" thus ensuring he was barred from every pub West of Bathgate!

i will be sure to play some music from Greenhouse this year@!
I hope others, will, as well! You can check out their music here: http://celticfusion.org/

(I am afraid some of my c.d.'s that i had before 2008 were destroyed
by the fire that consumed my house...that may be why i was not able
to play your recordings in my shows in 2009 and 2010--i will look again to see if any of your music survived)
