Recently, a friend gave me a copy of the cd " A Rough Guide Scottish Music". I am very much taken by the track "Fair Helen of Kirkconnel" by Emily Smith. Has anyone out there heard the whole album " A Day Like Today", and,if so, is it recommended?

And it is also quite nice to see ljc's name on a thread. Some people are not to be forgotten.

Just wanted to add that I saw the Emily Smith Band on Friday night ( 22nd October ) in Canterbury. Very enjoyable evening. Well worth seeking out if they are ever playing in your neck of the woods.

Having bought the cd I am now having to brush up on my Scots.

Emily is coming to the U.S. this fall and she will be performing at the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club in our new home - the Fair Lawn Community Center in Fair Lawn, NJ on Saturday October 13.   This is a small, intimate theater with great acoustics & lighting, a stage that is close to the audience, and very comfortable seats!    The room holds 171, so get your tickets early!

Tickets will be going onsale shortly through the Hurdy Gurdy website at www.hurdygurdyfolk.org . You can purchase tickets online or via mail.

Full disclosure - I am the president and booker for the Hurdy Gurdy.   I hope many of you will be able to attend. This will be Emily's first show in NJ, and one of her first shows in the U.S.   I think it will be really special evening! Hope to see you there!

Wow, first two posts by two of my favourite friends, sadly both now gone from us.

Thanks for brining this up, Ron. Shouldn't have any problems selling tickets; she's got a beautiful voice.

The above link kept timing out. HERE's a video of her on youtube. Several others listed.
