Lyr/Chords Req: The Tennessee Wig Walk

Supporters of English football (soccer) teams have a chant which they've been singing since the 60's. If you're a British football fan you'll have heard it loads of times...it's the one that goes (insert name of least favourite team): "We hate Man U, and we hate Man U, we hate Man U and we hate Man U, we hate Man U and we hate Man U, we are the Man U haters" (not noted for their lyrical originality, football fans, although there are some exceptions). Now I discovered in a book on football chants that the tune of this ditty is based on a song called "The Tennessee Wig Walk", a song which I've never been able to track down anywhere --- and I've tried! So --- how did this presumably pretty obscure song come to be known by at least one group of fans and appeal to them so much that they turned it into a chant which all the others picked up on? Mudcatters -- it's over to you!

Here's a link to a local (for me anyhow) ezine version of a Knoxville, Tennessee, magazine called Metro Pulse. The article featured comments on "Tennessee" songs, including "Tennessee Wig Walk."

Here's another article from a British source that may answer the question of "how" this group of soccer fans heard of the song. See the second paragraph:

Thanks guys...what a great song! Err...when I said I'd tried to find it, I meant I'd looked everywhere EXCEPT my Guinness Book Of Hit Singles and the (bookmarked) recordlady site. Doh!!

Haven't heard this in ages. I remember it being a hit when I was a kid in the 50s, and it was one of the songs I used to sing when I was bathing my twins when they were very small - Tennessee Wig Walk, Michael Finnegan, etc.

Thanks for reminding me.
